Betty Jean Krusell, a devoted wife, beloved matriarch, and trailblazer, passed away on June 13, 2023, in Elk Grove, leaving behind a legacy of strength, resilience, and love for her family. She was 79 years old.

Betty was born on April 18, 1944, in rural Kentucky, and she was the oldest of four children to her parents, William and Irene Doan. Growing up in humble beginnings, Betty’s tenacity and talents guided her, propelling her to make a world-class leftover stew and a better life for her own family.

One of Betty’s many accomplishments was her early role in the field of computer programming. In the 1970s, there were almost no women in the field, but Betty fearlessly embarked on a journey into this emerging technology. Her talent for computers led her to bring technology into the home at an early age and contribute her skills to the family business.

Beyond her professional achievements, Betty’s true joy in life came from her role as a loving mother and grandmother. She cherished her children and grandchildren and poured her heart into creating a warm and nurturing home. Her dedication to her loved ones was unparalleled, and she instilled in them values of love, compassion, and perseverance that will endure.

On a beautiful Illinois day in December 1975, Betty married the love of her life, the late Keith Stanley Krusell, a native of Chicago. They settled in the Fox River Valley and their family grew. Betty is survived by her daughter Katherine and son-in-law Jon, her daughter Sharon and son-in-law Mike, her son Jonathan and daughter-in-law Trinedy.

A memorial service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held on August 19th, 2023, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St Charles, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Betty’s memory to The National Park Foundation or The Nature Conservancy, two of the many charities Betty has supported over the years.

Betty Jean Krusell will forever be remembered as a pioneer, a caring mother and grandmother, a loving wife, a generous friend, and a symbol of perseverance. Her contributions to the world and her devotion to her family will continue to inspire. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her memory forever live on in our hearts.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church at 1145 North Fifth Ave, St. Charles will hold the Visitation from 10:00-10:30 am with the Memorial service beginning at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 19, 2023. A luncheon will follow in Fellowship Hall.

The service will be livestreamed for those who are unable to attend. Please visit the Bethlehem Lutheran YouTube channel and look under Memorial Services.
