Carl “Ray” Horton, 82, of Saint Charles, died Thursday, May 20, 2021, peacefully in his home with his loving wife of 62 years by his side.

Ray was born January 7th, 1939, the son of James Carl and Maye O. Burnett Horton. He married Edith (Foster) Horton December 28, 1958, at First Lutheran Church in Paxton, IL.

He is survived by two sons and two daughters; Scott (Michele) Horton of St. Charles, Doug (Wendy) Horton of Geneva, Jan (Jennie) VanDerHeyden of Maple Park, and Debbie (Ralph) Williams of Maple Park; 9 grandchildren; Stephanie, Katie, and Leah (Horton), Cayce and Chris (Horton), Abby (VanDerHeyden), and Kathy, Kelly, and Ethan (Williams); and 14 great-grandchildren. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Ruth Irvin, James Horton, Mary Ann Burhmaster, Patricia Roach, and Larry Horton.

Ray graduated from Rankin High School and was an Operating Engineer with Local 150 where he was a member for 60 years. He loved working on antique tractors, getting his hands dirty at the farm, and above all, Ray loved being with his children and grandchildren who affectionately called him “Papa”.

Visitation will be 12:00pm to 2:00pm, Sunday, June 27th, 2021at Yurs Funeral Home 405 E. Main Street, St. Charles, IL 60174. A Memorial Service will follow the visitation at 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Moose Charities. Ray was a member of the Moose fraternity for many years and in 2005 Ray received the Pilgrim Degree, which is the Highest Degree of the Loyal Order of the Moose.
