Carole Marie Comperda
August 3, 1938 – September 14, 2024
Carole (Kovanda) Comperda, as she would say “Carole with an E” was born August 3,
1938, to Emil and Adele Kovanda. Carole passed away Saturday morning September
14, 2024, after 2 ½ years following a massive stroke, she sustained in March 2022.
Carole grew up in Chicago and attended Steinmetz High School where she graduated
in 1956. After many summer trips to Eureka Springs, AR, Carole settled down and
married Ron in May 1959. They started their family in Oak Park, IL, and Bellwood, IL,
before building a home and moving to St. Charles, IL, in 1972 where she lived until she
moved to The Pearl Nursing Home in St. Charles, IL.
Carole started her own business with her mother, A&C Secretarial Services in 1969,
and worked in other secretarial positions before retiring at Gaylord Container as an
Executive Secretary in 2003. Carole was a loving and generous mother with a
headstrong persona, who exemplified her faith in God, spirt of forgiveness and a strong
work ethic. She is lovingly known for phrases such as “you’re not doing it right,” “listen
cookie,” and “you won’t dictate, I’ll dictate” where we laugh while mimicking these
phrases back at her.
Carole loved traveling, fishing, cooking, movies, and music. She took her family on
vacations from coast to coast, the most memorable were annual trips to Daytona
Beach/Ormond Beach, FL and Mercer, WI; and trips to Hawaii, California, Las Vegas,
Texas, Colorado, Arkansas, Virginia, and many more cities throughout the U.S including
two tours of Europe. Her cooking was exceptional, and we enjoyed many Bohemian
meals including dishes like oxtail soup, lamb stew and potato dumplings, to name a few.
She loved movies and music, and had owned thousands of films and albums, passing
along this passion to her children and grandchildren.
Carole is survived by her three children, Scott (fiancé Kristin) Comperda, Ken (Jen)
Comperda, and Doug (Nikki) Comperda, seven grandchildren, Emily (Nick) Budden,
April Velasquez, Kyle Comperda, Emma (Mark) Cerbin, David Comperda, Mikayla
Comperda, Mykenzi Comperda and Anthony Comperda, four Great Grandchildren, Eli,
Max, Landen and Hazel and three nieces and nephews and six great nieces and
nephews.
Carole preceded in death by her husband Ron Comperda, her parents Emil and Adele
Kovanda, her brother Lou Kovanda, nephew Jim Kovanda, and daughter-in-law Laura
(Dombrow) Comperda.
There will be a visitation from 4pm to 8pm Tuesday, September 17 th at Yurs Funeral
Home, 405 East Main Street, St. Charles. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am,
Wednesday, September 18 th at St. Patrick’s Downtown Church, 400 Cedar Street, St.
Charles. The burial will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.

"I will miss chatting with Carole, my "Garage Door Hero," during her many lunches with Doug (her son, my co-worker). When I feel like complaining about my lack of electric garage door opener, I think of Carole and how she manually opened her garage door for decades without complaint. A Garage Door Hero, indeed! She will be missed here on earth which was definitely made better for her having been in it. Big hugs & smiles sent up to you in heaven, Mama C!"

"I wanted to extend my deepest condolences to the family of Carole. I’m sure your hearts are aching and that no words will alleviate the pain you are experiencing. I met Carole in the Fall of 2022 while visiting my father who also lived at The Pearl (formerly River Crossing). I began to say “Hi” while she was in the TV and Dining Room. Carole had the same type of diet that my father had and also lived next door to my father in Wing 200. After my father passed, I began to volunteer at The Pearl and I engaged more with Carole. Even though she was not able to express her thoughts and feelings verbally, I knew when she was sad, happy, tired, sick, and frustrated. I began to see Carole as a loving and sweet person as she demonstrated the need for hugs, kisses, and hand holding—and chocolate. She gave as well as she received. Carol also had an infectious laugh. In time, I became the recipient of those precious hugs, kisses, and hand holding. Carole has touched the lives of both the staff and residents at The Pearl and is very much loved and respected. She has touched mine as well. I consider myself blessed and honored to have known Carole. May you rest in peace, Momma Carole."

"I was very saddend when I received the news that my "best Friend" Carole had passed away. I work for the Pearl of St Charles, the facility that she lived. I grew attached to her right away as the connection between us was strong. Whenever I needed a pick me up I would always go to Carole as she would give me tight hugs and rubs on my arm. Some times just sitting and holding hands was all we needed. I have so many memories of Carole and I will cherish every single one. I will miss her blah...blah...blahs......"Right"......"Oh God".....and her "Rayyyy" her infectious smile and her kisses. You will never be forgotten...best friend and I love you always and forever. Rest in Heaven Momma."
