Carol attended grade school in Pleasantville, New York, and was a high school student at Dana Hall, in Wellesley, Mass.  She attended Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, IL, where she met her husband, Robert W. Rosene Jr. They were pinned in December of her freshman year, engaged in February, and married August 24, 1957.  They made their home in Streamwood, and Elgin before settling in St. Charles in 1972 where they lived until 2017.  Carol went on to earn her B. A. degree in education at Aurora College where she was the recipient of the Gold Ivy Leaf Award for Academic Excellence. She later earned a Master Catechist Certificate from the Rockford Diocese, unit of Clinical Pastoral Education from Mercy Center, Aurora, and a second unit from Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital in Wheaton.  She earned a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Studies from Loyola University and a second Master’s Degree in Social Work from Aurora University. She is a member of Who’s Who of American Women.

Carol was a physical education teacher in grades K-8 working at Holy Angels School in Aurora. She was the founder of the Geneva Track Club, a director of the St. Charles Park District Track Club, and head track coach at Rosary High School, Aurora. Later in life, she founded the Bobbi Burrow Bereavement Center in St. Charles, to support families grieving the loss of a grandparent, parent, sibling, or any close relative.  The Bobbi Burrow was dedicated to the memory of her own mother, Mary “Bobbi” Robertson Hyde, who died when Carol was five years old.

After converting to Catholicism, Carol became an Associate Sister of the Order of St. Francis and a member of the St. Charles Ministerial Association. She was both a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. In 1993, she was honored with a Spiritus Franciscanus Award as one who imitated and reflected the values and lives of Saint Francis and Saint Clare. As a member of the Parish Council of St. Patrick’s Parish in St. Charles, she began a program for bringing communion to homebound and hospitalized parishioners and the began an outreach program for food and clothing for the Holy Angels Pantry and the Clothes Closet of Hesed House, both of Aurora.

In 1985, Carol was hired as the first lay Pastoral Minister in her parish.  She was able to expand the parish’s outreach ministry to include financial help to families, coordinated programs with St. Patrick Church and St. Joseph Church, and assisted in founding programs including refugee resettlement and senior citizen programs. She joined the task force for the care of frail elderly and became the first chairwoman for the Elderday Center in St. Charles, a day care for frail and elderly persons. Later, she was part of the initial Board of Directors for the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Elgin.

Later in life when it became more difficult for Carol to get around, she continued to be dedicated to helping others.  She supported veterans, babies, and the sick alike by knitting helmet liners, caps, and, prayer shawls.  Her most recent interest and opportunity to serve came in the form of hatching Monarch Butterflies in an effort to help the species continue to thrive.  This hobby/ministry was a year-round joy for Carol after she and Bob moved to Florida in 2017.

"My dad and I are saddened by the death of your mother. She was a good friend to both my mother and I. She was such a giving person and I admired her for her charitable work. We will never forget her."

Ruth Craig from Garden, MI

"Carol will always be in my heart. My cousin, Rob (as we called him) was blessed when Carol came into his life. She was a most loving, supportive and enabling wife and mother. Her can-do attitude, kindness, understanding, combined with her wonderful sense of humor were a gift to all. She touched and changed many lives. I know she will be terribly missed, but may the beautiful memories bring her family and friends comfort and joy as the years go by. With deepest sympathy, Cousin Ruth"

Laurie Ogiego Brown from ELGIN, IL

"Just learned of Carol's passing, and offer prayers for her family. As a college intern at The Bobbi Burrow, it was an honor to work with Carol and learn from her. My experience in bereavement ministry can be attributed to her... and I am grateful."

Amanda from Carol Stream, IL

"I only now discovered the name of the angel who created the location that quite literally walked my 12 year old self through the loss of my mother one year earlier.Carol, thank you, from the bottom of my soul, for listening to your inner knowing that propelled you to create a safe haven for children and their families to walk through the darkness of losing someone. You hold my mother’s name and I know she had a hand in helping my older sister find The Bobbi Burrow. I know that the peace I found in losing my mother at such a young age was much thanks to you.Thank you. May your spirit rest easy knowing you did God’s work here on earth so that everyone who graced the center could feel His love and light through the darkness of their grief."
