Cecelia Zimmerman, at the age of 99, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Oxford, Michigan, on July 10, 2024.
She was born in Chicago on April 6, 1925, to Everett and Cecelia Eis. Cecelia later went on to graduate from Farragut High School. After high school, she worked in a variety of jobs in the Chicago area during the war, including the Veterans Administration.
In 1951, she met George Zimmerman at a bowling alley in Oak Park and the two were inseparable from that point on. George and Cecelia were married for over 60 years and moved to St. Charles, Illinois where they raised five children, Rand, George (Mike), Tom, Margaret (Peggy), and Jim. She often reminded us how she had three kids in diapers at once. As the children were all in school, she worked part-time at the St. Charles Chronicle, a position she held until retirement. She was very active in the Saint John Neumann Church where she was one of the founders of the Silver Foxes. These activities were accompanied by her love for the game of bridge.
Cecelia was a fiercely dedicated mother to all her children, raising all of them to go on to lead happy and accomplished lives. Family came first and was above all else to Cecelia, a value she instilled in all those around her.
She is survived by her daughter in laws (Cynthia and Casie Zimmerman), son in-law (Larry Hayward), 8 grandkids and 14 great grandkids. Though the hole left by her absence is immense, we find comfort in the countless memories we shared with her and the love she bestowed upon us.
Cecelia’s wake will be held Friday, July 19, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at Saint John Neumann Church (2900 E Main St, St. Charles, IL 60174). A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Saint Charles, IL In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Cecelia Zimmerman’s name to Saint John Neumann Church.

"I regret that I cannot be at the service to celebrate Ceil’s wonderful life. I’m in Germany for the summer with daughter, Emily and family. Ceil’s love of family extended beyond her birth children and into the lives of the Kochlefl family where she became ‘Auntie Ceil’ in I us and we cherished her so much. I kind of think she is laughing at her bridge table in Heaven with my mom and dad and your dad❤️ Her joy and laughter was so enjoyed by all…. Just remembering her brings a smile to my face. Condolences to her family.🙏 Donna (Kochlefl) Boutilier"

"To my Zimmerman family: I am so sorry to hear about Aunt Ceil! She was always one of my favorite aunts growing up. It was always so fun to see her, Uncle George and all of the Zimmerman cousins and other aunts and uncles when we would get together. Aunt Ceil will be greatly missed by all of her family and I’m sure many friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. xoxo"
