Cherie Jean Hunter, 65, of Saint Charles, IL went to heaven on March 17, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt and will be deeply missed. After her passing on St. Patrick’s day, she will always remain our angel and “lucky charm”.
Cherie was born in Chicago, IL on March 12th, 1956. She graduated from Mount Assisi high school. She received a nursing degree from Morton College and would use her learned skills for years to come to take care of patients and her family. She married Dr. James A. Hunter in 1986 and celebrated 35 years of marriage this year. A doctor and nurse duo that deeply loved taking care of their family and one another.
She loved spending time with family and friends, being a grandmother (“CeCe”), cooking with love, and spending time near the beach in Lake Geneva, her home away from home. Cherie was always smiling, willing to help others, and truly loved life and lived it to the fullest. Despite her initial grave diagnosis of only 12 months to live, Cherie far exceeded her life expectancy to live for 7 years with a glioblastoma by leaning on a combination of her devout faith in God, positive attitude, perseverance, and her superb care team. Despite this adversity, she never complained, and remained courageous and positive to the very end. She was truly an inspiration to all those who knew her.
Cherie was committed to seeing her daughters get married and have grandchildren, all things she was able to experience and moments we will cherish forever. She loved being a grandmother and had a very special bond with her grandchildren Hunter, Margot and Henry.
Cherie’s loving memory will be cherished by her husband, Dr. James Hunter; her mother, Dolores Costello; her siblings, Robin Costello and Debra Cummins; her children, Lauren LeBeau (Ryan) and Katie Dienes (Patrick); her grandchildren, Hunter Dienes, Margot Dienes, and Henry LeBeau; and her nieces and nephews. We are at peace knowing she will be reunited in heaven with her father, Robert Costello, and her brother, Bob Costello.
Services will be held at St. John Neumann Parish in St. Charles, IL on Saturday March 20th with a visitation at 10 AM followed by mass at 11 AM. Entombment will be private at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorial contributions can be made to the Living Well Cancer Center.
