Gail Tattersfield, 84, died in Batavia, Illinois on April 29, 2025 after a long illness.
She was born Dorothy Gail Williams in 1940 in Port Chester, New York, to James Nelson “Nels” Williams and Dorothy True Blakey Williams.
She was raised in Larchmont, NY. She attended Mamaroneck High School and received a B.A. in Education from Beaver (Arcadia) College. She taught in a classroom, as an aide and as an ESL teacher over the years. She married George Tattersfield in 1963. They enjoyed 55 years of marital bliss in eight different states.
Gail and George loved to travel. England was their favorite destination.
Gail was a self-described extrovert. She was the organizer or attendant of every group whether it be the PTA, the Civic Association Gourmet Group, Welcome Wagon, “Lite Lunch”, Socrates Café, Book Club, the Driveway Gals, and Lifelong Learning. Memoir writing became her passion. She always encouraged people to “write it down!”
Gail and George were enthusiastic members of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Geneva.
Gail is survived by her children, Susie Fiorucci and her husband Vince and son Joe; George Jr. (‘Tats’) and his wife Margie and children Ben, Claire, and Maggie; and Geoff and his wife Leah. She is predeceased by her beloved husband George, her parents, Nelson and Dorothy Williams, and her five siblings: Richard Williams, James Williams, Kitty (Kavanagh) Brown, John Kavanagh, and Helen (Kavanagh) Hagan.
A celebration of Gail’s life will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 28th at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Geneva. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Gail’s memory to the Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva, Illinois.
