Obituary
Dr. Rev. Frederick Robert Harm
Frederick Robert Harm entered fully into the presence of his Lord and Savior Saturday, October 20, 2018, surrounded by his children.
From his birth in Queens, NY, on November 4, 1923 to his death in St. Charles, Illinois, he nourished people around him with love, faith and music.
Fred was born 15 minutes before his best friend and identical twin, Rudolph, to Fredolin and Mary (Scherf) Harm.
He joined the Army in 1943 and while stationed in Sioux City, Iowa he met and fell in love with a local beauty, Arlene McCoy. They married on July 24, 1945. Fred was ordained into the ministry of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synold and over the next 60 years he served congregations in South Dakota, Minnesota, Long Island, NY, Illinois, Missouri and New Jersey. He earned his PhD from DePaul University, Chicago, in 1974. Fred also had the privilege of preparing students at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis to be God’s ambassadors from 1978 to 1981. Over his lifetime he authored many books that continue to be a blessing to other ministers and lay persons.
Left to honor Fred and to remember his love are his six children, Judie (Bill) Ryman, Fred (Mary) Harm, Scott Harm, Mary Jo Taylor, Beckie (Bob) Untiedt and her twin, Bonnie (Rick) Pechous; fifteen grandchildren, Troy (Angela) Keesling Laura (Justin) Fleetwood, Gary (Becky) Keesling, Sarah (Mitch) Rentfro, Joshua (Onnie) Richter, Kaitlyn (Jordan) Rapacz, Alicia Harm, Rick (Camila) Pechous, Jayni (Matt) Wunderlich, Bryan Star, Nora (Tyler) Darr, Bethani (Scott) Pickert, Jessica Starr, Maddi Smith and Scott Harm. Twenty-three great grandchildren with two on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, brother Rudy, sisters, Gertrude Ficke, Madeline Ehscheid and Dorothy Powell; and three wives Arlene, Marjorie and Hertha.
His family and friends will miss him greatly. Fred’s gentle countenance, his smile and his Christian presence will be carried with them, and his impact on all who knew him will never be forgotten.
A celebration of Pastor Harm’s Life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Huntley on Friday, November 23 at 2:00 P.M. followed by a luncheon at the Huntley American Legion.
Memorial may be made to the Salvation Army and to Trinity Lutheran Church, 11008 N. Church St, Huntley,Il 60142
