Dr. Robert “Bob” Gage, age 83 of Elgin, IL passed away January 14, 2019. He was born to Fred and Retha (Marks) Gage in LaGrange, IN.

He is survived by his wife Annette, two daughters; Jennifer Gage, Stephanie Hoffer, three grandchildren, Katie, Julia , and John Hoffer, three step children, Gina Nielson, Lisa Shumaker and Marc Esposito, two step grandchildren; Chistopher and Daniel Nielson, sister Marianne Nelson of Shipshewana, sister-in-law Beverly Gage of La Grange, IN.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sister Nina Reade and his brother Monroe Gage.

Bob graduated from Springfield Township H.S. in Mongo, IN in 1953. He began his working career from 1957 to 1962 teaching physics at Battle Creek H.S. in MI. He then moved to Bowling Green, OH to the Bowling Green State University and taught physics from 1963-1965. He studied at Ball State University from 1953-1957 in Muncie, IN acquiring his Bachelors in Education. Bob then studied at Harvard University in Cambridge, MS from 1962-1963 receiving his Masters in Science Education. He then studied at Purdue University in LaFayette, IN., receiving his Masters in Physics. He worked at Purdue University from 1965 to 1967. Bob then attended the University of Sarasota in 1971 and acquired his Doctor of Science in Education. Bob then moved to Sugar Grove, IL to begin teaching physics at Waubonsee Community College from 1967 to 1993. Through those years, Bob worked his way from teaching to becoming Dean of Instruction.

Bob retired from Waubonsee in 1993 to enjoy a full life traveling much of the world with Annette and spent his final days living at Edgewater by Del Webb, Bob no longer had to mow lawns, shovel snow or do anything but enjoy life and spend winters in Florida. He studied hard, worked hard and lived a full life. And his favorite hobbies were Volleyball and Bocce Ball.

Visitation will be 2-600 P.M. Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Yurs Funeral Home 405 E. Main Street, St. Charles, IL 60174. An additional  Visitation will be 10-12 Noon  Friday, January 18, 2019,  at Frurip-May Funeral Home 309 W. Michigan St., LaGrange IN 46761. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Bob’s memory to The American Heart Association.
