Dr. Ronald C. Larry, 92, of St. Charles, IL, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025, following a brief illness at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Mt. Clare, WV, on August 28, 1932, a son of the late Domenico and Jennie Loria Larry.

Ron married Margaret P. “Peggy” Neff, the love of his life, on January 24, 1959. They would have been married 66 years later this month.

Surviving Ron are Peggy, two sons, Ron (Mary) Larry of Centerville, OH, and Mike (Christine) Larry of St. Charles, IL, and two daughters, Janet (Mike) Hubbard of St. Charles, IL, and Julie (Greg) Shelby, of Buffalo, MN. Also surviving are his brother, Dr. John Larry, and wife, Lenore, of West Chester, PA, and one sister-in-law, Velma Larry of Mt. Clare, WV. He is also survived by his thirteen grandchildren, Katie Maddox, RJ Larry, John-Michael Larry, Curtis Shelby, Tyler Shelby, Hannah Larry, Alyse Shelby, Megan Larry, Marie Hubbard, Emily Larry, Michael Larry, Jennie Hubbard, Abby Shelby, and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jim, Joe, and Rudy Larry; three sisters, Angel Palagino, Janet Sabatelli, and Mary Maslanik; two sisters-in-law, Jane and Mildred Larry, three brothers-in-law, John Palagino, Joseph Sabatelli, and Jerry Maslanik, and one daughter-in-law, Terri Larry.

After graduating from West Virginia University, he attended Northwestern Medical School in Chicago. While in medical school, he met Peggy, a nurse, and knew he had met the woman he would marry. They married and moved to Tampa, FL, where he served as a Doctor in the US Air Force for two years. Shortly thereafter, he and Peggy moved back to the Chicago area and shared a beautiful life together, raising four children who were the center of his world.

From the mid-1960s until his retirement in 1999, Ron built a successful career in Obstetrics and Gynecology, co-founding a private practice with his close friend and colleague, Dr. John Messitt in Wheaton, Illinois. His dedication to women’s health and compassionate care were hallmarks of his practice. In addition, he was honored to be one of the founding OB/GYN doctors at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois, where his contributions helped shape the hospital’s commitment to excellence in patient care.

Ron was not only accomplished in his career but also had a variety of passions. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. As a proud native of West Virginia, he was a devoted supporter of WV Mountaineer football. Additionally, he remained loyal to his Chicago Cubs and Bears.

We will remember Ron’s unwavering dedication to his family, community, and profession. His warmth, kindness, and infectious enthusiasm for life touched everyone who knew him.

My condolences to his entire family. He was a man of whom you can be proud. I hope he connects to many of his previous patients on the Other Side."

Tom and Marcia Schockman from Springboro, OH

"We offer our deepest sympathies to the entire Larry family. We had the opportunity to meet Dr Ron on a few occasions when he visited Ron and Mary in Ohio. He was so easy to talk to and was quick to talk to our young sons about their baseball games. A true gentleman."

Kristin Hoppenstedt Kreckman from Wheaton, IL

"Dr. Larry always had a smile on his face, a kind word, and a positive, encouraging attitude. My sister Jennifer and I worked as high schoolers in their OB/GYN office next to Jewel/Osco filing and pulling charts. Mary Meier Lutzenkirchen put in a good word for us and Dr. Larry, Messitt, Bowles and Hawkins hired us. They treated us as part of their office team and were so giving over the years. They even included us in the office Christmas party at the St. Charles Country Club. Dr. Larry was so loved and respected in the medical community, as part of St. Michael's Parish, and the surrounding burbs. His love of God, family, and folks was evident. May your family be surrounded by His loving arms. Kristin Hoppenstedt Kreckman"

JOHN J. MESSITT, MD from WHEATON, IL

"Dr.Ronald Larry andI first met in 1958as we started our rotating internshipat Cook County Hospital, a 5000 bed facility in Chicago. We rotated thru the various areas of medical practice often together and we began happily a friendship and a professional association which continues we finished our time in the service of our country, He in the Air Force, I in the Navy and US Marines. We chose Wheaton and Winfield with Central DuPage Hospital opening its doors in 1964. His mode of practice was one that was exemplary admirable and it continued throughout the years until then aging process caught us both and we quietly slipped into retirement. Ron's many patient's are a testimony to the quality of his practice, for he is greatly missed by those form whom he cared. His love of his wife Peggy and his family superseded his second love and that was golf where he most often excelled. I know that he will be missed greatly by his patients, his medical colleagues, friends, and especially his family. I know I, a long time friend and close colleague, now greatly greave his absence. Ron is surely is now with his Lord in Heaven, as I write this tale of loss."

Jackie Radke from Glen Ellyn, IL
