Obituaries

Duane Edward Sprowls, 87, died Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 5:05 am peacefully in his sleep.  He was a man who spread joy to those whom he met and made friends from strangers.

The son of Joseph B Sprowls and Theresa R Peterson, Duane was born on May 22, 1932 in Granada, Colorado at a whopping 13 pounds and 24 inches, the last of five children.  He came to Illinois in 1953 with the Army and served with the Anti Aircraft Artillery Gun Division stationed in Elmwood Park until October 1955 before being honorably discharged.  Here he came to meet his future wife, Anita Louise Sprowls, and they were married June 23, 1956 at Grace Lutheran Church, River Forest, Illinois.  After settling in Illinois, he began his career with Northern Illinois Gas Company, starting as a meter reader and eventually retiring from Management, Total Energy with 36 years of service.

He is survived by his daughter Heidi Diedrick and his daughter Regina (Rainer) Stalla, two grandchildren; Hannah Diedrick and Ethan Diedrick; also several dear nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, two sisters and his wife Anita.

Donations may be made in Duane’s memory to Bethlehem Lutheran Preschool or to the Salvation Army.

Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, September 30, 2019, at Yurs Funeral Home 405 E. Main Street, St. Charles, Illinois 60174.  Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 1, 2019 with a visitation before the service at 10:00 A.M, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1145 N. Fifth Avenue, St. Charles, Illinois.
