Edna Lavold Faillo passed away at the age of 94 surrounded by her loving family. Beloved daughter of the late Theodore and Johanna (Swanson) Lavold, Edna was born on May 4, 1929 in Maywood, IL. She graduated from Proviso East High School in Maywood. Her favorite subject was Zoology. Her career as a clerk typist began at Hines VA Hospital in Maywood. While working at Hines, she met James Faillo and the courtship blossomed from there.
In 1951, she married James Faillo at Sacred Heart Church in Melrose Park.
They resided in Maywood for a short time and moved to their home in Melrose Park to raise their four daughters. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Church Women’s Club and served as Girl Scout leader for Sacred Heart School. Her hobbies included knitting, sewing, cooking and baking. She worked part time at a local sewing store, Hanover Fabrics, in Winston Plaza and then took a secretarial position for a security company in Forest Park. In 1989, Edna and Jim moved to Tucson, Arizona to begin their retirement years in warmer weather.
She was an active member of Sons Of Norway, Trolldalen Lodge in Tucson, Arizona and served on numerous board positions over the 23 years of their residence. She volunteered at Tucson Medical Center in the Gift Shop. She loved staying active and took a position with a local Retirement Community as a Dining Room Attendant. You could find her at the Rincon Country Community pool with her swimming buddies doing their exercise class. She loved the pool!
In 2012, Edna and Jim returned back to Illinois to be closer to their family and grandchildren. She had the best outlook on life – always positive, gentle, and gracious. Her energy was such an inspiration to all who knew her, and everyone loved being around Edna. She was a faith-filled woman who had a great dedication to daily prayer and sharing her gift of compassion to others.
Survived by daughter Debra (Rocco) Colletti, daughter Patricia Faillo, daughter Mary (John) Kistner, grandchildren Maria (Jason) Sherman, Rocco J. Colletti, Johanna Kistner, Isabella Kistner, Paul Ivery, Anthony Ivery, nephews Michael (Kristine) Young, James Young, nieces Nancy (Michael) Cullinane, Joanne Young, and many grandnephews and grandnieces.
