Edward Raymond Gleamza of St. Charles, IL died December 11, 2023 in Aurora, IL at the age of 101.  Born December 6, 1922 in St. Charles, IL at home, son of Joseph and Veronica (Valentas) Gleamza.  He lived most of his life on Main St. in St. Charles and graduated from St. Charles High School in 1941.   He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church.  He served in World War II first in the infantry at Ft. Lewis, Washington and then transferred to Eighth Air Force 526 Squadron 379th Bomb Group Stationed in Kimbolton England.  He completed 37 missions as an aerial tail gunner and was one of the few who arrived home before the Japanese surrendered in August 1945.  He received a medal for sharpshooting, Air Medal, Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Ribbon, European-Africa-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with Bronze Battle Stars and 1 Overseas Bar. 

He married Audrey (Larson) at St. Galls Church in Elburn, IL on September 29, 1945.  They were proprietors of Parkside Liquors for 40 years before retiring in 1987 and they were married for 76 years before Audrey’s passing in 2021.  He is survived by 4 daughters:  Karin (Fred) Rosenthal of The Villages, FL; Dianne (Ralph) Potter of Graham, WA; Marsha Winter of Elgin, IL; and Darlene (Charles) Lutzow of Sanford, NC.  2 sons:  Bruce (Laura) Gleamza of Geneva, IL; and Tim Gleamza of Bonney Lake, WA.  12 Grandchildren:  Seth (Denise) Rosenthal of Naperville, IL; Nathan Rosenthal of South Elgin, IL; Kimberlee (Terry) Jones of Graham, WA; Erik (Meg) Potter of Edgewood, NM; Heather Winter of South Elgin, IL; Melissa Winter of Oregon, IL; Alex (Amanda) Lutzow of Chicago, IL; Cara Lutzow of Raleigh, NC; Clay (Samantha) Lutzow of Warminster, PA; Elliott, Henry and Bryston Gleamza of Geneva, IL.  10 Great Grandchildren: Cole and Cade Rosenthal; Mollie and Alinea Rosenthal; Macrae, Emerson, Autumn and Jaelin Lawton; Orion Lutzow; Clay (CJ) Lutzow.  Many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife Audrey, his parents, an infant brother and 2 sisters.  Genevieve Leslie Averett in 2012 and Eleana (3 years old).  Nephew Steven Sagert, Niece Sunday Sagert.
