Edward Robert Horton age 86, died May 17, 2018 in Geneva, IL. He was born in Crawfordsville, IN on August 10, 1931. He graduated in 1949 from Jacksonville High School, Jacksonville, IL and in 1953 graduated from Illinois College and married Charlotte Dietz (class of 53).
He entered the Navy where he served for 20 years as a nuclear weapons officer and research physicist. In 1969 he became an ordained minister and served as a Deacon in the Episcopal and Anglican Churches for 43 years. In 1973 he retired from the Navy, joined Wycliffe Bible Translators and went to Papua New Guinea Where he was an International missionary high school teacher and administrator for the next 26 years. In 1999 he and Charlotte returned to the United States. Charlotte passed away in 2000 and in 2001 he married a widow, Mary Potter Frame, also from Jacksonville.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Prof. George and Leah Horton, Sr. and his brother, Prof. George W. (Bill) Horton, Jr.
He is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Ann (Merle) Busenitz, son Tim (Vonnie) Horton and stepdaughters Jamie (Jim) Konz, Jennifer (Tom) Boers and Susan Cole. He enjoyed his eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
There will be a Memorial Service at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church in Downers Grove, IL, on June 30, 2018, at 2:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wycliffe Bible Translators, Orlando, FL (for Papua, New Guinea Employee’s Children’s Education Fund), Illinois College, Jacksonville, IL (for the George W. Horton Sr. Prize in Physics) Saint Charles Episcopal Church, or Saint Andrew Episcopal Church.
