Elaine M. “Neen” Nelson (nee Teborek) (September 11, 1940 – January 24, 2026)

Neen Nelson, long-time resident of St. Charles, IL passed away on January 24, 2026
surrounded by friends and family in her home. She was born in Chicago, IL and spent
the first part of her life in Berwyn and LaGrange Park. During the summers, she
enjoyed spending time driving the family’s Gar Wood boat and participating in
watersports on the Chain O’Lakes. She graduated from Morton High School in Berwyn,
IL and earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Northwestern
University in Evanston. She was a lifelong and proud Wildcats supporter and fan.
Upon graduation, she taught first and third grades before dedicating her life to her family
and children. Interestingly, one of her elementary students pursued a career in
education and taught her children at Thompson Junior High School in the 1980s. She
spent most of her adult life in St. Charles, watching and supporting its growth into a
flourishing large suburb. She had many loves in life including her family, the St. Charles
community, St. Charles Country Club, her friend groups in the Chicagoland area,
shelling on Marco Island, traveling to new places, and variety of Eastern European
cuisines. Throughout her life, she was an expert shopper, finding thoughtful gifts for
friends and family.
She also appreciated the kindness and compassion of her healthcare providers and
caregivers over the years as her health problems emerged and through her life she
sought comfort in the church as a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St.
Charles.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Roy and Mildred Teborek, and her
husband Richard. She is survived by two children, Amy and Ross (Jennifer), 2
grandchildren – Avery and Richard “Vann”, and numerous extended relatives from her
and Richard’s extended families including Jeff and Susanne Smith of St. Charles and
their three children Nick, Brianna, and Arianna and a sister and brother in-law, Nancy
and Gene Ellingson of Rochester, MN.
There will be a memorial service at a later date, and the family asks that any charitable
donations be directed toward the general fund for Delnor Community Hospital in
Geneva, IL. For further information call Yurs Funeral Home St. Charles.630-584-0060
