Erika Furj, age 85, of Batavia, passed away on Saturday, July 5th, 2025 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

She was born on April 20, 1940 in Mako, Hungary to Janos and Erzsebet Ombodi.

Erika with her husband and their daughters arrived in America in February of 1981.  Erika retired from Prudential in Schaumburg in 1997, after which she spent her days taking care of her grandkids, travelling, and hosting family gatherings.  She was a wonderful cook and her kids continue to prepare the same dishes she had enjoyed.  Her generous spirit and kindness will be greatly missed.  Her mighty laugh, beautiful voice and warm hugs are irreplaceable.  She could move mountains to get things done.  She loved flowers and gardening.  She was an avid reader and had a beautiful soul.

Mrs. Furj is survived by her husband of 60 years, Miklos (Miki), two daughters, Erika (Gary) Sittler and Kathy (Bob) Kollasch, six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Brianna, Rebecca, William, Alexa and Jonah, three great grandchildren, Clayton, Reese and Theodore, and three sisters, Eva Lacko, Klari Gaal and Ildiko Kiss.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Janos Ombodi and a sister, Hajnalka Toth.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, July 11th at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, St. Charles.  Burial will be at North Cemetery in St. Charles.  Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
