Estelle “Essie” Hough, age 92, of St. Charles passed away Friday, July 18th at Autumn Leaves in St. Charles.

She was born August 11, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois to Frank and Libera Canale.

Essie lived a life full of purpose, adventure, and love. She dedicated much of her life to a distinguished career with Trans World Airlines (TWA), where her professionalism and passion for travel took her across the globe. Whether navigating busy terminals or discovering new cultures abroad, she carried with her a sense of curiosity and grace that touched everyone she met. Travel was just one of her great loves—cooking was another. Known especially for her incredible biscotti. To know Estelle was to love her. Essie had a remarkable way of shining a light on everyone around her; friends family and strangers alike. She was extremely kind and generous— fierce and entertaining, a true Leo. She was, and will forever be our light. Our sweet, brave (and sassy) matriarch who never let anyone or anything get in the way of her dreams.

Mrs. Hough is survived by her daughter, Kim (Paul) Kimmel, Son-in-law, Robert Drennen, Grandchildren Elizabeth, John, Jason, Justin, Tess, Jessica, Grayson and Kelly and16 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her, parents, Frank and Libera Canale, a sister Kathleen, her former husband James J. Hough, son, Jim Hough, and her daughter,  Jane Drennen.

Memorial service will be held 5:00 P.M. Sunday, August 3rd at Yurs Funeral Home,

Memorial visitation from 2:00-5:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider donating to a charity close to Estelle’s heart; the World Wildlife Fund, or Women in Aviation International.

"Aunt Essie, thank you for being the tremendous presence in our family. Huge heart, generous, loyal and funniest conversationalist ever. Thank you for raising your wonderful children; they all had a hand in teaching me about life. I hope you can finally catch up on your sleep, and someone up there helps you find your glasses. Love you Auntie Mame."

"I new Essie since 1969 from our days at TWA, she was the only woman alive that made my blood pressure get so high it was at stroke level ! We did a couple of trips to Rome, were she told me of a great coffee shop just around the corner from our hotel, if you ever been to Rome, Rome is all corners, we were about 7 people including my father. She wore fluffy bedroom slippers, after crossing the Tiber River twice and 45 minutes later , my father gagging for air and exhausted , we had the biggest fight on the bridge swearing at each other in Italian, an Italian stranger saw us arguing and asked me if this was my wife ,I told him in Italian if she were my wife i would of already thrown her in the river, She lost it and couldn't stop laughing she wet herself. She was a ball buster ! Essie God rest your soul I will miss you very much !"

"Essie was the "Barbie Doll" we all adored. I worked with her for years at TWA she was also my wife's friend, we had many dinners at our houses, I especially remember her "PICKLE SOUP". She never looked her age and made younger women envious. R.I.P. Essie"

"I worked with Essie for many years, mostly ticket counter and baggage service. She was a different kind of person, but you just couldn't help but like her. The guys loved to torment her by playing tricks on her, and she loved every minute of it. She touched lots of lives and she'll be missed by many."

Janet from Louisville, KY

"I will always remember “aunt” Essie for that beautiful smile of hers. She was always so kind and I love to hear her stories. She was absolutely full of life!"
