Gary Steven Jones, 72, passed away on September 30, 2024, of natural causes while on vacation in Mammoth Lakes, CA. Born on July 6, 1952, in DeKalb, IL Gary dedicated many years of service to the community through his work with the DuPage County Forest Preserve, where he was employed from 1971 until his retirement in 2003. In addition to his commitment to conservation, Gary served as a Paid On-Call FireFighter for the cities of Elmhurst and Carol Stream for 12 years, a testament to his dedication to public service and community safety.

After his early retirement, Gary enjoyed working part time over the summers with the Kane County Cougars minor league baseball team, traveling the country with his wife, and having family get-togethers with his children and grandchildren.

Gary was a proud alumnus of Valley Forge Military Academy, class of 1970, an experience that honed his discipline and respect for structure, traits that he carried throughout his life.

He leaves behind a loving family: his wife of 31 years Carolyn Jones; children, Steven (Katherine) Jones and Megan (Tom) Kirkham; step-children, Jason (Laura) Ramcke and Sandra (Carlos) Vaca; his brother, Robert Jones; and eight cherished grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Janet Piersall and Alfred Jones, and his first wife, Kathleen (Newhouse) Jones.

Gary’s life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his family and his community, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

His Celebration of life will be held October 17th from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon

at the Yurs Funeral Home St. Charles
