Gaylene Jo Doyle

June 28, 1952 - October 11, 2025

In Loving memory of Gaylene Jo Doyle

Gaylene, born on June 28, 1952, in Geneseo, Illinois to Dean and Doris Moon, has left us with a legacy of love and dedication. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, teacher and friend who touched the lives of many.

Gaylene’s journey in life began when her family moved to Rockford, Illinois just in time for her to start kindergarten. She soon became Big Sister to Kristy and then Kim, embracing her role with joy and kindness.

After graduating from East High School in 1970, Gaylene pursued her education at ISU for two years, then went onto Western and in 1974 earned a Bachelor of Science in Special Education with a minor in Elementary Education. Teaching was not just a profession for Gaylene; it was a passion that she carried with her throughout her remarkable 36-year career in the St. Charles School District.

While Gaylene dedicated herself to shaping young minds, her greatest joy and fulfillment came from raising her two boys, Joshua and Zachery. She poured her heart and soul into being a loving and nurturing mother, creating a warm and welcoming home for her family. They were the center of her true passion in life. Grandsons Jackson and Ethan hold a special place in her heart.

Beyond her devotion to her family and career, Gaylene had many long-time friendships that included The Rockford Girls Plus 1 that began in grade school and lasted a lifetime. She had a variety of hobbies that brought her immense happiness. She had a flair for cooking and baking, constantly experimenting with new recipes while preserving her family’s traditional favorites. Her green thumb was evident in her beautiful garden, and she dedicated her time to the Potawatomi Garden Club, sharing her knowledge and passion for all things botanical.

Gaylene was also a member of the Fox Valley Presbyterian Church. During her membership, she served as a deacon as well as serving on communion preparation, Sunday School, and many more activities.

Gaylene’s love for literature was evident in her membership in a neighborhood book club that endured for over 30 years. Historical fiction was her favorite genre, and she would immerse herself in the vivid narratives of the past, sparking thoughtful discussions and cherished memories with her fellow book club members.

Gaylene leaves a legacy of love, compassion, and dedication to family, education and the simple joys of life. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Edward, sons, Joshua Doyle (Jessica) of Parker, CO and Zachery Doyle (Laura) of Chicago, IL; grandsons, Jackson and Ethan Doyle; granddaughter, Elizabeth Doyle; sisters, Kristy Lewandowski (Mike) of Riverview, FL and Kim Drell (Mike) of Glen Ellyn, IL; nephews, Eric Lewandowski, Matthew Lewandowski, Keven Lewandowski, Craig Lewandowski, Kyle Drell, Connor Drell, and Nick Drell.

Per family request, all services for Gaylene will be held privately.
