George was a 1959 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He enjoyed his time as a member of the Irish Guard especially since it allowed him to reach his end goal of attending all the away football games. While at ND he was also a member of the Army ROTC program and met his future wife, Gail, who attended St. Mary’s College. They married in 1961 in Elmhurst, IL. George served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army and while stationed in Germany, he received the Army Commendation Medal as Commanding Officer of the 7th Ordnance Detachment.

After returning, George continued his education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, and earned an M.S. in Management while teaching ROTC. George then proudly served as a Captain in Vietnam. Upon discharge from the Army, George started his civilian career with DuPont and continued as a sales manager with NTN Bearing Corp. of America.

George and Gail raised four children in Batavia, IL. As an Eagle Scout himself, George enjoyed camping and seeing his sons also become Eagle Scouts. George was a founding member of the Batavia Lions Club and enjoyed coaching his daughters’ softball teams. George also served on the ND Alumni Board. In 1987, while president of the local Aurora-Fox Valley ND Club, he was awarded the ND Award of the Year for his service to the university. He enjoyed watching the ND games on TV with Brian as recently as weeks ago. George was awarded the Recognition Award of the Society of Automotive Engineers in 1990 for his work as Chairman of the Chicago Section.

George is survived by his wife, Gail, son Michael (Marianne), daughter Susan (Brian) Kloberdanz, daughter Laura (JB) Letchinger, and Christopher; and much-loved grandchildren Abby, Claire, Drew, Jack, Ava, Mae and Vivian.

"Dear Raab Family,I have such fond memories of tailgating for ND games back in my college days. Mr. and Mrs. Raab so graciously let the gang drop by the RV for a bite to eat. Our special parent weekends were always a highlight with “Graab’s” great smile and hearty laugh. I always had such respect for him. He will be missed. With deep sympathy, Carolyn Blocher"
