Born Oct. 13, 1958, Gregory is survived by his mother, Marie DeBenedictis, and sister Lauren DeBenedictis. He was predeceased by his father, Humbert A. DeBenedictis, in 2000.
Known to his beloved family as “Buncle,” Gregory wilfully shared his unique gifts of wit and intellect with nieces Emma DeBenedictis and Dalaynin Arnold, nephews Gabriel and Daxton Arnold, cousins, sister-in-law Christy Arnold, partner-in-crime Rob Rodriguez, and his Rizzo cousins, who considered him as another brother. He was not shy about expressing his deep affection for all.
At once their most avid fan and harshest critic, he watched or listened to nearly every New York Yankees game from the time he moved to Burr Ridge from Englewood, N.J. in 1974. However, baseball was just a single one of his passions, as he applied his deep intellect to American History and politics, able to break down and articulate difficult concepts into layman’s terms with simplicity.
Greg graduated with a Master’s Degree from Loyola University of Chicago. Greg earned a fellowship to complete his PHD. He took a sabbatical, however, to work with his little sister for “just a short time”. His sabbatical turned into a 20+ year IT Sales Career. His career here brought him lifelong friendships and many years of happiness.
People who were close to Greg knew he was very much like his father, Al, in his love for animals -especially those in need. Greg enjoyed taking in strays and providing them with love and nurturing. He also was like this with many, many people in his life. He was often the quiet savior to many. He loved to help where he could and never asked for anything in return. Greg had the unique way of having conversations with you about anything and everything always continuing to educate. He was extremely well versed in history and welcomed the opportunity to provide endless facts in a way of educating you while making you laugh. He was indeed one of a kind.
Visitation will be from 4-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday February 5th at Yurs Funeral Homes in St Charles, 405 E Main Street (RT 64). Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 6th at St Patrick Catholic Church in St Charles, 6N491 Crane Rd. Burial at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside, 1400 S Wolf Rd , Hillside.
