- Funeral
Greta Shirley Steves of St. Charles, IL passed away peacefully on December 29, 2020 at the age of 88.
Greta led an exceptional life, starting with her birth on May 10, 1932 in Poone, India. After spending the first several years of her childhood in India, she moved back to England with her family. Greta met her husband Gunter in Canada where they were married in Peterborough on February 12, 1955. Eventually, the couple found their way to St. Charles, IL where they started their family. The couple loved to entertain and often prepared elaborate meals together much to the delight of friends. While Gunter was more often the chef; Greta played her role as glamorous sous chef and clean-up crew to perfection. They loved to travel and frequently visited friends and relatives throughout Europe. The couple also enjoyed their many friends in Naples, Florida where they spent considerable time during the colder months.
Greta could truly light up a room and will be missed and remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know her. Greta’s husband Gunter preceded her in death by only two months, and we take solace that they are together again planning their next adventure.
Greta is survived by her sons Misha Steves, Bernhard (Brigitte) Steves, grandchildren Loren (Travis) Hemming, Andrew Steves, Ryan Steves, Juliana Steves, Timothy Steves and great-grandchildren Sawyer and Hudson Hemming. She is also survived by her loving brother, Graham, and sister, Ann.
Due to COVID restriction, the family asks that you offer prayers in private. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
