Guenter Belicke, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025, at the age of 96, in St. Charles, Illinois. Born on February 18, 1929, in Wiehl, Germany, Guenter lived a life filled with love, adventure, and remarkable experiences that touched the hearts of all who knew him.
Guenter was the son of Hermann and Johanna Belicke, and he was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Adolph and Helmut. They were a significant part of his foundation, instilling in him values of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of family. Guenter’s journey to the United States began in 1959, driven by his spirited sense of adventure and hope for the American dream.
In America, Guenter applied his knowledge and expertise as a Volkswagen mechanic, taking on the role of VW Department Manager at Wheaton Import in Wheaton, Illinois. His dedication and passion for his work were evident throughout his career. Guenter’s love for automobiles was matched only by his zest for travel. Before emigrating, he enjoyed spontaneous trips across Europe in his beloved VW Beetle and motorcycle, visiting breathtaking cities such as Venice, Florence, Milan, and Bologna.
Once settled in the U.S., Guenter’s love of travel continued to flourish. Family camping trips across the country in VW campers became cherished memories, with adventures to Florida, Colorado, and numerous National Parks. He shared his enthusiasm for automobiles with his son, Thorsten, regularly attending Porsche Club events and the thrilling 24 Hours of Lemon’s races. His favorite moments were those spent with his family and his daughter Silvia’s dog, Smokey, who brought him endless joy.
Guenter was married for 63 beautiful years, a testament to his devotion to his wife and family. He is survived by his children, Silvia Belicke Funke and Thorsten Guenther Belicke (and wife Diana Sorgi Belicke), along with his cherished grandchildren, Dakota Funke, Ryan Funke, and Nicole Belicke. The love he shared with his family was immeasurable, and his legacy will live on through them.
In his later years, Guenter faced the challenges of heart failure and dementia with grace and dignity. Despite these difficulties, his warmth and humor remained intact, and he continued to be a source of inspiration for those around him.
A visitation in his honor will be held at Yurs Funeral home in St. Charles, IL on Wednesday, June 25 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. The memorial service to honor Guenter’s life will be held on June 26, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Charles, Illinois with burial to follow at Union Cemetery. The family welcomes friends and loved ones to join them in celebrating the extraordinary life of this remarkable man.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Guenter’s memory to Healing Gardens at Stone Hill Farm, St. Charles, Illinois, or to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Charles, Illinois.
Guenter Belicke will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
