Gunter L. Steves, 87, died on Monday, October 26th at Silverado Memory Care Community in St. Charles. Gunter was born in Porz-Urbach, Germany in 1933 and immigrated to Canada where he met and married his wife, Greta. The couple was married 65 years. In the late 1950’s, the couple found their way to the Fox Valley, eventually settling in St. Charles. Together with his business partner, Bernie Klein, Gunter founded St. Charles Stampings, Inc., where the two managed a successful business for over 50 years. Gunter loved travel, cooking, gardening, spending time with friends and was an active golfer and skier.
Gunter was proceeded in death by his parents, Lorenz and Maria Steves and by his sister Marianne Steves (Hess). He is survived by his wife Greta, sons; Misha (Sharon Sly) and Bernhard (Brigitte Baumann), grandchildren; Loren (Hemming), Andrew, Ryan, Juliana and Timothy and great grandchildren Sawyer and Hudson Hemming.
Visitation will be Saturday from 12 to 2 PM at Yurs Funeral Home in St. Charles. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Association (www.ALZ.Org).
