"As I drove through the city the night I heard of Butch passing I drove passed the gas station where the story ( You needs to pull over I gots to take me a s...)I had to tell him this wherever we were. He would laugh so hard he made a video of this to share with everyone's laughs and enjoyment. What a great man who cherished his family and always had something good to say. Loved us all over for whatever game day there was cooking and making all of us comfortable. I'll make your boys your clam sauce. Love you Joe"

"I’m so sorry to hear the sad news. Butch and I were fraternity brothers at Carthage College. We were teammates on the Carthage football team and the wrestling team. I think he still holds the record for the fastest pin at Carthage. He was a mean cuss on the field and the mat. He was a great man. His personality will be missed by all who knew him. Yet it will live on in us because we knew him. God speed Butch. Your Beta Phi Brother, Holly"
Gary Spragg (Tree) from Elk Grove Village, IL
"Butch and I were fraternity brothers at Carthage College, Beta Phi Epsilon. I haven’t seen him in a number of years but reading about the man, good friend and dad he became is no surprise to me. He was always a good guy and humble in spite of his athletic prowess. In college he was known for giving his friends a “lung chop”. He’d sneak up and hit you in the chest and back simultaneously with the inside soft part of his clenched fists. It would kind of knock the wind out of you and he’d just stand there with that big smile and raised eyebrows like “yeah so”…?! LOL"
Jon and Sarah Dusell from St. Charles , IL
