Harriet M. Karall age 79, of St. Charles, Illinois passed away November 29, 2019. She was born to Anton and Alice Kossakowski in Chicago, and grew up there and in Wheatfield IN. Little did she know at the time that her future husband was a good friend of her older brother Tony, living conveniently across the alley in Chicago.
Harriet and Roland started their married life of 58 years in Chicago with their 2 sons Mark and David. The family was parishioners at St Wenceslaus Church where the boys would go to school. She stayed very busy as she volunteered as a lunch mom and teacher’s aide as well as being a member of the Mothers Club. As her boys got older she would serve as a cub scout den mother and later as a boy scout committee member and member of the Scout Mothers Auxiliary. It was through her boys love of camping that she was introduced to Owasippe Scout Reservation. She would stay at the family camp during the week her sons would camp with the troop. She loved the activities as she was able to participate in many of the same things as the boys. The family would go on to spend many weekends there during the year with family and friends. Harriet would eventually rejoin the workforce when her boys were old enough to be left alone, working in the tax department of a home mortgage company. She was thrilled when David married Yolanda and there was another female voice in the family.
After retirement Roland and Harriet moved to St Charles, IL, farther west then either had ever imagined. She loved her new home and the new friends she was making. The ladies would meet in the morning several times a week at the Meijer for coffee and to share news of the latest goings on. Harriet also enjoyed having morning coffee on her deck while reading the daily newspaper or one of the many books she would borrow and read from the library. She also kept busy volunteering as a docent for the St Charles Forest Preserves, planting, weeding and harvesting at her community garden plot, participating in activities at her church St Patrick’s, riding her bike or just relaxing at home exploring things on her computer.
Harriet had a zest for life and true love and devotion to her family, she is greatly missed.
She is survived by her loving husband Roland, sons: Mark Karall, David Karall, sisters; Angeline (John) Nemec, Christine (Thomas) Dobbins.
Harriet was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law Yolanda, and brother Anthony (Sharon) Kossakowski.
Visitation will be 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Yurs Funeral Home 405 E. Main Street, St. Charles, Illinois 60174. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, December 5, 2019 at St. Patrick Crane Road Catholic Church, 6N491 Crane Road, St. Charles, Illinois 60175.
