Obituaries

Hugh Dennis Giertz, aged 90 years, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2023. He was born on March 10, 1933 to Rose M. Giertz and Luther B. Giertz in Elgin, IL. He is survived by his sister, Luann (Earl) Lamp, his children, Jody Emery, David (Eve) Giertz, Michael Giertz, John Giertz and Douglas (Shannon) Giertz, and 8 grandchildren. He spent his career at Northwestern Mutual Life and was a CLU and ChFC.  He was an avid racquetball player, loved Lake Geneva, his U of I Illini, and retelling stories from his days as a Navy helicopter pilot. He enjoyed laughing with others. He was always a willing participant in competitions at family reunions, even inventing an umbrella relay where the “baton” lives on, continuing to be “gifted” among relatives! He especially enjoyed his grandchildren, who called him “Grampa Goofy” which says it all! Private services will be held.
