James Cody Hegland, 88, of St. Charles, IL, passed away on November 9, 2023. He was born on June 2, 1935, in Rochelle, IL, to Francis and Roy Hegland. Jim was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

A proud veteran, Jim served in the U.S. Army before returning to college to get a degree in Education. Jim was a passionate and dedicated teacher and coach, retiring after more than 30 years of service.  Jim’s commitment to education left a lasting impact on his students, who fondly remember him even after leaving his class. With an outgoing and friendly nature, he never met a stranger. Quick to lend a helping hand, he was always there when someone needed a boost. If there was a fist bump to be given, Jim was on it, especially when it came to the little ones at church.

Jim indulged in his passions. Golfing, horse racing, model trains, playing bridge, yard work, and farming were just a few of the hobbies that brought him joy.  He made lots of memories traveling with his beloved Wyonne and friends.

Jim will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 65 years, Wyonne Hegland, his daughters Melissa (Scott) Weede and Sarah (Dan) Warner, his grandchildren Jessica (Scott) Hayward, TJ (Lacey) Jones, Megan (Billy) McGowen, and his great-grandchildren Wyatt, Emma, Maverick, Harlie, Kylie, Waylyn, and Taos. He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Roy Hegland, and his sister Sally Anderson.

Memorial services will be held on November 18, 2023, at Congregational United Church of Christ, Campton Hills. A visitation will take place from 9:30-11:00, followed by the memorial service at 11:00. A celebration of life luncheon will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Congregational United Church of Christ at 40W451 Fox Mill Blvd, St. Charles in his memory.

Jim will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched with his kindness and dedication. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
