James Hillard Kerley, 86, peacefully passed away on Monday, February 3, surrounded by the love of family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and laughter, cherished deeply by his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Born on February 8, 1938, in Gideon, Missouri, James was the son of Arlie and Lillian Kerley. On February 26, 1961, he married the love of his life, Brenda Lee Harris, at White Oak Baptist Church in Bernie, MO, beginning a beautiful partnership that would last a lifetime.
James is survived by his devoted wife, Brenda; their daughter Sheryl (Jeff) Nottingham; grandson Dustin Nottingham; granddaughter Samantha (Chris) Hawkins; and three great-grandchildren, Juliana Hawkins, Krista Jarrard, and Christopher Hawkins, very close family friends Vera Munoz, Sandy Armitage, Susan Galley, Jessie Milner, Brent Schmit, Brooks Ronzheimer and Jeffro Osinski. He is also remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews and his number one cat Bailey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlie and Lillian Kerley; his sister, Etta Lee Germ; brothers Wayne, Robert, and Burl Kerley; and his cherished hunting dog, Snooper.
An avid fisherman, James spent countless joyful hours on the water, relishing every fishing trip, especially those shared with Brenda, his best friend and partner. He had a profound love for music—both playing and listening—and enjoyed hunting and sports throughout his life. James’s greatest treasures were the memories forged with friends and family, often brought to life through his delightful storytelling and quick wit that kept everyone laughing.
James Hillard Kerley will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his warm spirit, love for adventure, and the laughter he shared with those around him. Family and friends will gather for visitation from 11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M., Friday, February 7th at Yurs Funeral Home of St. Charles. Funeral will be held on at 1:00 P.M., Friday, February 7th at Yurs. Graveside interment will be held immediately after at Union Cemetery.
