James Cadenhead, 87, passed peacefully on February 16, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. James, better known as Jim, Arkie, or Grandad was an amazing soul. He spent his life serving and caring for others, he never put himself first. He loved the Lord and showed God’s grace and faith to all. His smile was infectious, and he could strike up a conversation with anyone. He truly cared for each and every person he met. He was most proud of his family, especially his three granddaughters who were his “pride and joy”.

He met his wife in 1955 and quickly married her in the same year, she was the love of his life. From 1955 to 1960, he proudly served overseas in the Army and shortly after his return, Anna and Jim welcomed their only daughter, Mallonee.

When Jim returned from the Army, he began his career with the City of St. Charles, and also, very proudly, served as a volunteer firefighter.  He then went on to oversee the St. Charles Township Cemeteries and finally retired as the St. Charles Township Road Commissioner. After retiring, he continued his passion for selling treasures at the Kane County Flea Market and other various venues.

He is survived by his daughter Mallonee (Hal) Koenig; granddaughters- Kalynn (Howie) Lemley, Tori (Andy) Johnson, and Hallie Lickfelt; great-grandchildren- Natalie, Jordan, Rhett, Kinsley, Maci, Kane, and Evelyn; sisters Della Meadows, Betty Tucker and Earlene (Cary) Meadows, and many dear nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his wife, Anna, parents, Carlton and Cora Tom Cadenhead, and sister, Shirley Petges.

He would not want us to mourn his loss but instead “keep looking up” and celebrate his life and legacy.

Visitation will be held at Yurs Funeral Home in St. Charles on Sunday, February 20, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a funeral service immediately following at 5:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of donations to the American Diabetes Association in his honor.

Condolences

Earlene Meadows from Boynton, OK

"James was my brother and I loved him so much. I will miss calling and talking to him. He was always happy, funny, and loved to talk."

Peggy Montgomery from Sugar Grove , IL

"I had the privilege of helping Mr Cadenhead in some of his endeavors. A sweeter man could not have been found. God let us get to know him, but decided he wanted this angel back. So glad I was able to be a small part of his life."

Melinda Oswalt Ramsden from Geneva, IL

"Sending deepest sympathy to the extended Cadenhead family from the extended Grotberg family. Jim was a treasure!!"
