James Thomas Dowd, of St. Charles, passed away peacefully with family on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at age 40, following a brief illness from kidney disease. He will be remembered and loved always for his generosity, humor, empathy and graciousness.
The cherished son of Army Colonel (Ret.) William C. and Donna W. Dowd, James was born in Nuremberg, Germany on February 27, 1982. He graduated from St. Charles High School and earned his degree in Economics and Public Policy from the University of Chicago. He excelled academically and on the football field, playing on the offensive line from youth league through college.
James leaves his loving family and army of friends with his gift of tremendous kindness, intelligence, compassion and loyalty. His trademark quick wit and his love of sports were well known, and James was a passionate fan of the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, Notre Dame and Army. His devotion to all animals, but especially his dogs Georgiana Halas “Hallie” (deceased) and Piccolo “Picc,” was remarkable, with many calling him a dog whisperer.
James is predeceased by his maternal grandfather Ralph “Poppo” White, paternal grandparents William S. and Helena Dowd, and uncle Michael Dowd. In addition to his parents, James is survived by his brother William “Patrick” Dowd and sister Meghann Dowd; maternal grandmother Margaret “Mamie” White; aunts Margaret LaDuca, Catherine Brown (Godmother) and Suzanne Watts and their spouses; uncles Ralph White and Thomas White (Godfather); 12 cousins and their families; and countless lifelong friends.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 16, 2022, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Yurs Funeral Home at 405 East Main Street in St. Charles. Funeral services will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at 6N491 Crane Rd, St. Charles on Saturday December 17, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private.
