Obituaries

Janet Samuels, 83, of St. Charles, died Sunday, August 13, 2017, in Manassas, Virginia where she was in an assisted living facility. She was born March 23, 1934, in Geneva, Illinois, the daughter of Robert and Helen (Redborg) Winston. She lived most of her life in St Charles. Working for St. Charles Kitchens, St. Charles School District #303, and finally Agco in Batavia, Janet was a skilled office assistant, who kept abreast of changes in technology through the years. In her free time, she especially enjoyed music and travel. She sang and played the piano, and was a member of PlayMakers, the Elgin Choral Union, and St Charles Episcopal Church Choir. She traveled all over the United States, Europe, Caribbean Islands, Iceland, and Alaska by car, train, boat, and air — hoteling, cruising, and even camping in a popup trailer. Other activities she enjoyed included playing bridge, crocheting and knitting, and all types of puzzles.
Janet is survived by her daughter, Debra (Christopher) Mayer, and her grandchildren, Miles, George Garret, and Charles, of Manassas, Virginia; and son, Bradley (Robin) Samuels, and her grandchildren, Amanda (Tim) Perpich, Joseph, and Jacob, of Chicago. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Patrick Samuels.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the St. Charles Episcopal Church, 994 North 5th Avenue, St. Charles, Illinois, with The Reverend Stacy Walker officiating. Burial will be in the Peru City Cemetery in Peru, Illinois.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 P.M. on Friday, August 18, 2017, at the Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E Main St, St. Charles, Illinois 60174.
