Joel Gary Hunter was born in Geneva, IL on December 3, 1952 to Beatrice (Weimer) and John Hunter. The family resided in La Fox, where Joe lived until he married. Joe was drafted into the service in 1971 to eventually be stationed in Korea along the DMZ. He received an honorable discharge in 1974. Joe was a partner in Marberry Cleaners/Illinois Cleaners where he worked mainly in the St. Charles office until he needed to leave for health reasons about 4 years ago. He was able to start, fix, maintain almost every piece of equipment and knew many of the customers by name. Joel’s affable smile and gentle demeanor were appreciated by both employees and customers. Joe was deeply family oriented and loved being with his family more than anything.

In addition to his wife, Deb, whom he adored, he took great pleasure in his children and grandchildren. He loved to be outdoors; camping, fishing, playing with his children and working. He also enjoyed watching Mash and the Cubs. About 7 years ago Joe was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and both body and mind began to fail. When he was so disabled that he could not work, the family moved to Tennessee where Joe lived out his final days.

In addition to his wife, Deborah (Barrett), he is survived by his daughter; Jennifer Hunter and her children; Kristen, Braden and Averie Fritsch, son Jonathan Hunter, and Joel’s step-children; Phillip Lawson, his son Phillip, Jr., and Kevin Lawson, his brother John (Kathy) Hunter, and their children; Lauren (Corsi) and Adam, sister Judy Hanson, and her children; Jeffrey, Matthew and Christopher.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be at Yurs Funeral Home in St. Charles on Thursday, August 31 from 4 to 8 and funeral services also at Yurs on Friday at 10:00 A.M. Friday September 1, 2017. In lieu of flowers contributions to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or the Muscular Dystrophy Association would be greatly appreciated.

"I'm so sorry for your loss. Yet I'm honored and blessed to have had the opportunity to know Joe through a Christian men's small group in St. Charles. Joe was a faithful servant and follower of Jesus Christ. He knew full well the weight of sin in a life and although that weighed on him he was always a smiling happy Christian man, reveling in the freedom from that sin that came through the blood of Christ. Joe was a faithful father, husband and to me a friend and mentor I will miss him."
