John Bard Putz, age 69, passed away October 29, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on September 26, 1948, to Frank and Marion Putz. He resided in Cudahy, Wisconsin, where he attended Kosziesko and J.E. Jones Elementary schools and Cudahy High School. During high school, he was active in cross country and track and field. He was a participant in the choir and played the lead in The Music Man in 1968. John was given the School Service Award upon graduation.
John attended Wisconsin State University-Stevens Point and graduated in 1972 with a B.S degree in Science Education. He taught in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, for one year. He graduated from Wisconsin State University-Stout in 1977 with a Master’s Degree in Educational Media. Upon graduation, he took a position at Elgin Community College.
John worked at Elgin Community College where he taught multimedia classes and served as the head of media department. After his retirement, he continued with his love of teaching at ECC. He also worked his small farm taking care of his beloved animals and driving his tractor. He is survived by his wife Jean and three children: Heather (Robert) King, Margret (AJ) Rogers and Scott (Traci) Rogers and his five grandchildren: Clayton, Brandon, Madison, Andrew, and Taylor as well as his sister Susan (Keith) Kujawski and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents Marion and Frank.
Memorial service will be held at Yurs Funeral home 405 E Main St, St. Charles, IL 60174 from 4-7pm on November 13, 2017. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Family to help establish an Educational scholarship in John’s name at Elgin Community College.
