John F. Kohlert, age 57, of St. Charles passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born August 16, 1965, in Geneva, Illinois to Henry and Lorraine Kohlert of St. Charles.
John was a lifelong resident of St. Charles. He graduated from St. Charles East High School in 1983. John continued his studies at Elgin Community College where he studied manufacturing, machines and tool and dye making. John worked at several businesses in the area before starting his own business, Kohlert Manufacturing and eventually Kohlert Technologies in St. Charles.
John met the love of his life, Nora (Roberts) and they married in 1991. John was a devoted husband and father to his three children, Ashley, Michelle, and Christopher. John was a family man and enjoyed time with his wife and children on many vacations over the years. John was a big fan of Disney World, Las Vegas, and anything to do with Star Wars. John was also an avid Rush fan, and also enjoyed the Chicago sports teams, especially the Bears and the Black Hawks. He had many interests and activities including bicycling and flying his drone. In later years, he adopted a rescue cat, Freddy, who was of great comfort to him as he valiantly fought his cancer for almost three years.
John’s life was centered on continuing the family legacy of the Kohlerts in business in St. Charles. He had worked for his father initially, and later started his own business in the same building. Later, John moved his business to the industrial park in St. Charles and worked closely with his brothers to build on the success of the business. John was an innovator, and a skilled engineer. He developed many unique manufacturing solutions to area businesses and Fortune 500 companies.
John served on the St. Charles Fire Department as for more than 12 years. John was a Master Mason and was a member of the Geneva Masonic Lodge. John was also a member of ChapelStreet Church in Geneva.
John is survived by his wife of 32 years, Nora, three children, Ashley (Luke) Dettlo and Michelle (her boyfriend Sterling Matias) and Christopher Kohlert, five siblings, Gloria (Edward) Geske, Thomas (Karon Impson), James (Jill), Jeffrey (Carla) and Christopher (Mae), several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 20, from 3-8:00 P.M. at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, St. Charles. Funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, July 21st at ChapelStreet Church, 2300 South Street, Geneva, Illinois. Burial will be at Union Cemetery.
