John Paul Kozik, 90, of St. Charles, Illinois passed away on March 9, 2021.
John is survived by his wife of 63 years Pat (Kimball) Kozik and four children Jack (Cathie) of Naperville; Molly (Jeff Horn) of North Aurora; Steve (Chie) of St. Charles; and Tom of St. Charles. And five grandchildren Liz Kozik, Mike (Liane) Kozik, Quinn (Carisah)Kozik; Emily (Gabe) Hicks and Mary Horn. And dear little Bijou, the poodle.
John was born in Chicago and moved out to a small farm in Maple Park in 1943. John was always a farm boy at heart and he remembered spotting WWII training planes flying overhead during the war. He went to Burlington High School and graduated from Plato Center High School before graduating from Northern Illinois University with a business and accounting degree. He started his teaching career in St. Charles in 1957 when he married Pat, who was also a teacher in St. Charles.
John focused his life on his family, teaching and sharing his love of God and his church. He belonged to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in St. Charles and was a long-time lector, Eucharistic minister and former Parish Council President.
He shared his love of sports, computers and the weather with his children who have fond memories of keeping score at Cub games and trying to hit his masterful knuckle ball in the yard which was called “the baseball field”.
In his retirement, John, served as volunteer for the National Weather Service for ten years. The Weather Service loved John’s weather station for being located in the center of Kane County.
John used his desktop publishing talents for many years publishing journals and newsletters for District 303 and assisting Pat in professional career development publications.
John was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Anna.

"So sorry to hear of John’s passing. I had many conversations with John over the years, many were about little or nothing. My deepest condolences to Pat and the family."

"Mr. Kozik was my teacher at Lincoln School in St. Charles back in 1960. He was a fair teacher and I liked him, even though he DID put me out in the hall once! Later on I worked with him at Piggly Wiggly in St. Charles, during the summertime. I was HIS boss then, however, I didn't put him out in the hall! God Bless you John!!"
Kim Kolodzik from Johnsburg, IL
"Dear Steve and Family! My heart aches for all of you to lose such an amazing Man, Father, Grandfather, Husband, etc.... But to all the hundreds, if not more of us that he taught in school as he was the penultimate typing teacher, but so much more! He taught us life long skills that are the gifts that keep on giving, he taught us how to write proper letters, etc., and they had to be perfect to pass his class! I recall him shouting "hey Kim keep those eyes off the keys and let's do it again"... Jay Jay Jay, Kay Kay Kay and so on! He made us better and demanded the best from us in such a kind way. When I reached out to MaryEllen McClain and Catrin to let them know, they both responded in kind... Jay Jay Jay, Eff Eff Eff, and so on! That speaks mountains of the impression he left on all of us for all of these years (decades)! There are few teachers I even remember, and surely not a name, but your Dad nor his name was ever forgotten and never will be! I am thankful to this Day of the skills he taught us! Some of those skills that are no longer taught, but still just as important! Love to you "our friend" and the best to your entire family!"
Carol Allan from St. Charles, IL
"My condolences to his family. John was a very kind man, often sharing knowledge of those newfangled inventions called computers."
