Joseph Diorio, age 87, of St. Charles passed away peacefully Friday, May 10, 2024, at Brighton Gardens in St. Charles, Illinois, where he was affectionately known as “The Mayor.”

He was born January 17, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois to Alexander Andrew “Shorty” Diorio and Stella Maryianowski. He was united in marriage to his loving wife, Mary Diorio nee Murray, on October 5, 1957, and for 63 years thereafter until Mary’s passing on April 11, 2021. Joseph is survived by his children; Debra (William) Wester, Joseph A. Diorio, Diane (John) Roggemann, John (Tracy) Diorio, and Jim (Joanne) Diorio; fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; his brother, Andrew “Sandy” (Bernadette) Diorio; sisters-in-law, Joanne Diorio, Fran (Gene) Ziolkowski, Margo Murray; brother-in-law; William (Ruth) Murray; and his extended family at Brighton Gardens, especially Geri and Anne.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, parents, his brother John Diorio, his daughter-in-law Linda Diorio, grandson Joseph J. Diorio, and brother-in-law Larry Murray.

Joe met Mary in 1955 when Mary attended Aquinas High School. Together they lived in the Hegewisch and South Deering neighborhoods of Chicago before moving to Homewood, IL in 1969. He was an office manager for John Hancock Insurance Company. In 1999 they moved to St. Charles. They enjoyed going to Cocoa Beach where they vacationed with family for over 20 years, and many trips to Wisconsin. Other memorable trips included Spain, the Caribbean, Jamaica, Cozumel, Leon in Mexico and Italy, where Capri was his favorite.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, May 14th at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2900 East Main Street (Rt. 64), St. Charles. Burial will be at Union Cemetery, St. Charles. Visitation will be Monday, May 13, 2024, from 3-8:00 P.M. at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, (corner of Rt. 64 and Rt. 25), St. Charles, Illinois 60174.
