Obituaries

Karina Jeanette (Maenpaa) Hawker, 88, died December 31, 2019 at Delnor Hospital in Geneva, Illinois while comforted by her loving husband Wilbert Lee Hawker. She was greatly loved by her husband, children, grandsons and their families.

The daughter of Lauri E. Maenpaa and Julia L. (Kontas) Maenpaa, Karina was born on March 9, 1931 in Ashtabula, Ohio. On September 14, 1956 she married Wilbert Lee Hawker at Grace Lutheran Church in Conneaut, Ohio.

Karina was a Registered Nurse; graduate of the Mt. Sinai Hospital School of Nursing, Cleveland, Ohio and earned her B.A. in Nursing at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She practiced nursing for 46 years in Ohio and Massachusetts.

Survived by her husband Wilbert Lee Hawker, sons Eric W. Hawker and Debora (Sobeck) Hawker, Evan J. Hawker, and Brian K. Hawker; grandsons David R. Hawker and Michael J. Hawker; brother Ronald “Bud” and  Janet (Harlacher) Maenpaa of Conneaut, Ohio; and several nephews and nieces.

Family will gather for a private viewing at 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 6^th at Yurs Funeral Home of St. Charles, Illinois, 405 East Main Street, St. Charles, Illinois 60174. Interment will be 11:00 A.M. at Prairie Cemetery, Crane Road, St. Charles, Illinois.
