Kent Buchholz, 84, died Monday, October 17th surrounded by his loving family. He was greatly loved by his wife, children, grandchildren and their families.
The son of Emil and Ella Buchholz, Kent was born on June 12, 1938, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. On January 13, 1978 he married Becky Ripley at Christus Victor Lutheran Church in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.
Kent is survived by his wife Becky, daughters; Kim Hayworth, Julie Edwards, Heather Taylor and Heidi Dzik; 12 grandchildren; Jada, Alexandra, Jason, Ryan, Samantha, Ashley, Tyler, Connor, Stephanie, Lucas, Trenton and Bella; and dear nieces and nephews.
Kent was preceded in death by his son Daryl and daughter Kimberly Sendra.
In 1965, Kent emigrated from Canada and acquired a job with United Airlines. He worked as a mechanic/ground communications employee for 38 years. It was his job to “keep the planes in the air!”
Kent was a devoted man with unending pride for his family. He took time and intent over the years to know each of his children and grandchildren, to find and nourish their strengths and passions. Kent used his gifts of learning, teaching and ingenuity to share the wonders of life with each of his loved ones. The dedication and compassion he shared for his family was second to none. He will continue to be life’s truest gift for so many.
Kent’s Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 22nd at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1145 N. Fifth Avenue, St. Charles, IL, 60174, with Pastor Jean Duran officiating. Family and friends will gather for visitation at Bethlehem Lutheran Church from 9-10:00 A.M. prior to the service.

"Dear Buchholz family, it is with great regret that I missed the passing of Kent. Kent was my best friend while I was with UAL. We spent countless hours discussing everything such as family life, politics, religion and you name it we talked it over. Kent actually lived two doors down from me when I was a boy and he was sharing a home with a couple other single men for a while. Kent was a mechanical genius. He could do anything. If there was anyone I would want to be stuck on an island with other than my own beautiful wife it would be Kent because he was skilled at so many things. I parted ways with UAL shortly after Kent retired and only got to see Kent one more time as distance and lack of opportunity prevailed. Kent was one of the kindest family men anyone would want to meet. When I was out of town, Kent would personally deliver my paycheck to my home so my family didn't need to go without. Kent and I travelled together around the UAL system many times. We never had a dull moment together as his wit and wisdom was always worth listening to. I know he is missed terribly. Kent, I hope we meet again my friend."
