Kevin Martin Wilson entered this life on Oct 29th, 1955 in Louisville, KY. The youngest of five children born to Robert and Arletta ‘Feenie’ Wilson. He was raised “free range” by his dad and the world, as Feenie had declared “this one is all yours” to her husband at his birth.
After a few years in KY followed by a few more up in Middleton, WI the family landed permanently in Elmhurst. That’s when the nuns at Immaculate Conception got involved in Kevin’s upbringing. He made some lifelong friends at I.C., the first of many groups of close friends he would form over the next six decades. He met another group of buddies at York High (class of ’74), one of them introduced Kevin to his sister, Niki Nottelmann. After dating a few years Kevin and Niki decided to commit to a lifetime together, for better or worse. That was June of 1979. The pair quickly welcomed a son, Mathew of Aurora, followed by a daughter, Julie of Savannah, GA; Patrick (Tera) of Cary was born in 1986 and the family was complete and living in St. Charles by then.
Kevin started his career in carpentry in the 70’s, gaining the skills and knowledge to become a founder of Interior Contractors and eventually his own commercial general contracting company, Wilson Contractors, based in Villa Park. He was respected in the industry as a fair, albeit hard to please, G.C., always expecting the best from those he worked with. His success was such that he was able to retire at the young age of 51, much to Niki’s chagrin, as she had been home peacefully raising children and tending to the household the last 20 years.
Kevin filled his days with sports cars, attending races at Road America; spending time at lake houses in Putnam then Henry counties; attempting to train a series of wonderful yet goofy dogs; regular fishing trips to Pashkokogan, Ontario, in search of walleye and northern pike; speculating if this would be “the year they go all the way” -of his beloved Green Bay Packers; grabbing breakfast or seeing (many) a concert with a core group of family friends, omlettes and the Blues being his favorites, respectively; and most importantly HE TRAVELED, that passion began on a cross country roadtrip with friends after high school and continued right up til the end, taking long trips, exploring state parks from south TX to the U.P., with Niki and the dogs in their motorcoach.
Kevin loved his grandsons, Noah and Rider, more than they’ll ever know, although his laughter and fun spirit already shine through them both. That mischievous sparkle in his eye, his sarcasm and wit, his ethics and hardwork are just a few bits of the legacy Kevin leaves to the next generation of his children and grandchildren, godson Bobby, and so many nieces, nephews, and their children. His memory is also carried on through surviving sisters, Nancy (Karl) Schultz and Wendy (Marc) Granrath. As well as in-laws Patti Alvarez, Mark (Carol) and Gary (Rhonda) Nottelmann. And of course his “golden nuggets”, Hanky May and Ella June.
Kevin was greeted in the afterlife by his parents, sister Susie Suhadolnik, brother and sister-in-law Duffy and Cass Wilson, niece Nicole Gonzales, as well as several dearly departed friends and forever untrained dogs. The quote he most used in his final weeks was “seeing you makes me smile, and I want to leave you with an even bigger smile on your face”. Kevin lost his battle with cancer in the comfort and loving space of his home on Oct 15th. Please join us in celebrating his life on what would have been his 69th birthday at Creek Bend Nature Center at Leroy Oaks Forest Preserve in St. Charles from 3-6pm on Oct 29th. Friends are encouraged to arrive early in order to enjoy the natural beauty and trails beforehand, as Kevin would have done.

"Through my brother Russ and my friendship with the Nottelman’s, I became friends with Kevin. We became very close and I’ve been privileged to have shared many great adventures, antics, escapades, tomfoolery and times with him. We frequently presented ourselves to strangers as brothers or “little boys from Germany - ya”. He lived his life as he wanted and, fortunately, what he wanted was good. His smile, upbeat attitude, and Jerry Lewis impersonation along with clever off beat sense of humor made him irreplaceable. He loved Niki, Julie, Matt, Patrick, his family and friends above all else. Not a mean bone in his body. I will miss him - even his penchant for dishing out “Wet Willie’s”. No one could ever have a better friend."

"My condolences to your family. Kevin was a partner and GC of mine back in the day, many memories of him, Doug and Bobby through the years. I have had the good fortune of staying in touch with Kevin over the past two decades and i know he enjoyed his retirement immensely, love his family as i heard all about Niki and the kids. I was able to walk the area yesterday up to the creek, and had some fond memories of him while there. What a beautiful celebration of his life on his birthday."
