Layne Marie Van Gyseghem, 49, died Tuesday, March 30, surrounded by her loving family.  She was greatly loved by her sister, brother, niece, nephews and their extended families.

The daughter of Robert and Drelah VanGyseghem, Layne was born on February 19, 1972, in St. Charles, Illinois.

Layne attended Mades-Johnstone school in St. Charles and graduated from Elgin Community College’s special education program.  In 1994, Layne began working at Valley Sheltered Workshop in Batavia where she took great pride in her work and enjoyed every minute working side-by-side with her friends for 27 years.  Valley Sheltered Workshop provided a place for individuals with disabilities to develop friendships, socialize and feel a sense of pride in doing work and giving back to their community.

Layne was also very active as a volunteer at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, Illinois where she contributed more than 13,000 hours.  She was considered a valuable part of the OPIC team where she took pride in helping the staff keep the patient environment clean.  Layne loved spending time with her family and being the life of the party.

She is survived by her sister Nancy (Tim) Moran, brother Robert (Julie) Van Gyseghem, niece Kelly Moran, nephews Tom (Liliana) Moran, Matthew (Amanda) Van Gyseghem, Tyler Van Gyseghem and great nephew Ethan Moran.

She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Drelah Van Gyseghem, grandparents Omyer and Madeline Van Gyseghem, James and Edna Fitch.

The family would like to thank all of those involved in Layne’s life for making it special and meaningful.

Visitation will be held Saturday April 3. 2021 at Yurs Funeral Home of St. Charles. Family and friends will gather for visitation from 2-5:00 P.M. The Funeral Service will follow visitation at 5:00 P.M. at Yurs Funeral Home of St. Charles, 405 East Main Street (corner of Rt. 64 and Rt. 25). Interment will be at River Hills Memorial Park in Batavia as a Private Ceremony.

Donations in Layne’s memory may be made to the Special Olympics Illinois.
