Lawrence “Larry” Wray, age 83, of Elgin formerly of Hoffman Estates passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2023.
He was born January 31, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois to John and June (Jackson) Wray.
He is survived by his wife Marina of 61 years, 4 children, 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved daughter, Christine (Wray) Kmiec.
Larry graduated from Schurz High School in 1957 and Northwestern University in 1961. On June 24, 1961 he married Marina (Cali) at St. Viator Church in Chicago. They went on to raise four children, Kathy (Chuck) Bielarz, John (Julie), Karen (Mike) Johnson and Michael (Angela). Larry had 12 grandchildren, Tiffany (Gio), Joshua (Samantha), Daniel (Annalise), Bonnie (Adrian), Taylor, Jessica, Julia, Brad, Kyle, Jordan, Katelyn, Callie and 8 great-grandchildren, Sophia, Natalia, Sofia, Leanaya, Declan, Jeremiah, Dominick, and Isla all of whom he adored. He leaves behind his brother-in-laws Phillip (MaryLynn) Cali, Salvatore Cali and sister-in-law Nancy (Russ Johnston) Maurer as well as many nieces and nephews.
His career was in Information Technology, where he began working after graduation with Univac and continued in that field. He played tennis in high school and college and was on the swim team. He was active in his community, volunteering on many boards in the community and churches. He and Marina were involved in Marriage Encounter and continued to stay connected to many of the friends they met there. After retirement, Larry and Marina traveled extensively across the U.S. and Europe.
Larry will be missed greatly, and leaves a legacy of love and a lifetime of wonderful memories.
Visitation on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at 9:30am in the narthex of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2900 East Main Street, (Rt. 64), St. Charles.
Memorial mass will follow at 10:30am in the church.
Private interment will be at Union Cemetery, St. Charles.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.
