Lela Beck Naegele, 85, loving wife for 62 years, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend passed away June 15, 2019 at River Glen in Saint Charles, Illinois surrounded by loved ones. She is preceded by her sister Esther Beck, her father Lester Beck, and her mother Dorothy Beck. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert, children, Mary (Jordan) Naegele Maclay, George (Sandy) Naegele, Tom (Christine) Naegele, eight grandchildren, and her siblings, Robert Beck, Phyllis Hoppert, and James Beck.

Lela grew up on a farm in Michigan and had a love for nature. In Monroe, Michigan she worked as a bookkeeper for a concrete company and a receptionist at Mercy hospital. After marriage she moved to the Chicago suburbs to raise a family before retiring to Southwest Wisconsin for many happy years.

Lela was a skilled home maker, flower and vegetable gardener, food preservationist, seamstress, and an excellent cook and baker. She had a passion for birdwatching and dogs. She supported educational activities in the community and served as co-president of the PTA at her children’s school. She became a den mother of cub scouts, helped her children establish early morning paper routes, and taught them initiative, consistency and perseverance.

A generous host, she took visiting friends and family sightseeing and often had a delicious, multi-course, home cooked meal waiting for them at the end of the day. Many of her meals used ingredients she had grown and preserved herself, skills and traditions that she passed down to her family. Lela was extraordinarily caring, organized, and always thought of others first. She was 5’2” and would often say “good things come in small packages.” She was so right about that. She was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Yurs Funeral Home St. Charles. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 P.M. Burial will be at Union Cemetery St. Charles.
