Obituary
Liska Etta Thompson Hackett, age 97, of St. Charles, died in her sleep Saturday, April
13, 2019 at Brighton Gardens of St. Charles. She was born February 1, 1922 in Ripley,
Lauderdale County, Tennessee, the only child of James Allen Thompson and his wife
Enzie Pearl Lassiter Thompson Hood. Her parents preceded her in death.
On December,15 1939 she was united in marriage with Charles Dale Hackett. He
preceded her in death on November 21, 1994.
Mrs. Hackett had lived in the Tri-City area since 1941 and was known as an
accomplished seamstress who also mastered many forms of needlework including
knitting and crochet, needlepoint, and quilting. She held one of the original booths at
the Kane County Flea Market for several decades where she sold antique furniture,
paintings, needlework, clocks, collectibles, and assorted “junque” as she put it. An
avid reader, she greatly appreciated the services of the St. Charles Public Library. She
was an active member of the Congregational United Church of Christ for many
decades and a former member of the National Society Daughters of the American
Revolution.
Liska lived through nationwide economic ruin, wars, terrorist attacks, and massive
natural disasters. Two years before she was born American women gained the right to
vote. As of the date of her passing women make up almost a quarter of the United
States Congress. She endured, learned, worked, supported and was joyful her entire
life. Liska was emblematic of the Greatest Generation. She is dearly missed by her
many friends and family. We take solace in the sure and certain knowledge that she
has passed from the Church Militant to the Church Triumphant.
Liska is survived by her daughter, Janette Hackett Kirkham (Kent) of Brandon,
Mississippi, her son Jo Allen Hackett of St. Charles, Illinois, grandsons Charles W.
Kirkham (Randi), Brandon, Mississippi, Andrew A. Kirkham, Springfield, Illinois, greatgrandson
Nathaniel W. Kirkham of Brandon, Mississippi, her sibling Evelyn Hood St.
Clair of New Port Richie, Florida, one niece and several great-nieces and greatnephews.
Services are pending. Her cremains will be inurned at a later date at The
Congregational United Church of Christ Memorial Garden, St. Charles. Special thanks
to Salvation Army Meals-on-Wheels and the kind people who made the deliveries ,and to the staff at Brighton Gardens of St. Charles for her excellent care
