Lory J DeBeir, 82, of St. Charles, IL, died on Tuesday, June 11th, at the Rosewood Care Center. Lory was born on December 5, 1936 in Chicago, IL to Kurt and Loretta Jonatat. On October 15th, 1954, she married the love of her life, J Richard DeBeir, and they have spent the past 64 years together.
Lory graduated from St. Charles High School and then went on to receive her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education from Northern Illinois University. She was a member of the English honors society, Sigma Tau Delta, recognized for her high achievement in English language literature and writing.
Shortly after graduation, she began teaching at Haines Junior High School in St. Charles where she taught 7th grade English. After 34 years of teaching, Lory retired in 1993.
In addition to teaching, Lory lead a very full life with her passion for horses. She began riding as a young child, and later competed in rodeos, 4-H shows and developing her skills as a trick rider. In the early 1960’s she and Richard purchased Primrose Farm, a hunter/jumper equine facility in St. Charles. Lory was very involved in the local horse show scene as well, having been one of the original founding members of the Northern Illinois Hunter/Jumper Association. In addition, Lory combined her love of literature and horses to publish and edit On Course Magazine.
Lory is survived by her husband, Richard DeBeir, Children: Liz DeBeir of Wellington, FL and Lynda (Michael) Clementz of St. Charles, IL. Grandchildren; John Berkos (Dorothy Flisk), of Sugar Grove, IL, Gretchen Berkos of Wellington, FL, Katherine (Ben Nissen) Clementz of Oak Park, IL, Molly Clementz of Santa Barbra, CA, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, John DeBeir.
Lory will always be remembered as a kindhearted and gentle spirit who impacted many lives through her thoughtfulness and compassion for family and friends. She will be missed dearly.
Visitation will be held at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E Main Street, St Charles, IL 60174 on Sunday, June 16th from 2:00 – 6:00 P.M. Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 17th at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main Street, St. Charles, IL 60174 followed by graveside burial service at Garfield Cemetery, Campton Township.
Contributions in Lory’s memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
