On February 18, 2021, Marvin Hetz passed away at age 85. He was a veteran, a generous friend, and a good man who loved his family very much.
Marvin Eugene Hetz was born to the late Carl and Bessie Mae (French) Hetz, in Wood Dale, IL on July 1, 1935. He was surrounded by a loving family throughout his life.
After graduating from Bensenville High School in 1953, Marvin worked for the Milwaukee Railroad as an electrician’s helper, followed by his enlistment into the Army on April 20, 1954 at 18 years of age. Marvin served at many posts all across the United States and overseas, including Osan Air Base (K-55) in South Korea, in the 181st Signal Company. He attained the rank of Sergeant, and was honorably discharged in 1957. After serving in the Army for three years, Marvin worked at AT & T in Chicago and Oakbrook, IL, for over 30 years.
Marvin was a great admirer of antique cars, airplanes, and other vehicles, and would attend many car, air, and steam shows with his friends and family. He was a proud owner of his cars over the years, his very own symbol of American freedom, including a 1947 Dodge and 1951 Studebaker among his first cars.
Marvin settled in St. Charles, in 1973, where he purchased a home on over one acre of land, and planted over one hundred of his much-loved evergreens. Here he created a sanctuary for birds and other wildlife. Marvin thoroughly enjoyed long car rides to many destinations short or far, wherever the natural beauty of our great country beckoned.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Liza (Santos), daughter Stephanie (Brandon) Santos-Gray; grandchildren Lochlan Santos Gray and Mayari Santos Gray; his sister Diana (Dan) Bojko, his nephews Randy Stay, Russell (Anne) Bojko, Bryan (Alissa) Bojko, and Danny, Kevin, and Shay Bojko, and his nieces Toni (Dave) Watson, Dani (Raul) Lomas, and Tatum Bojko.
Please note the February 26th Zoom meeting has been changed to March 12, 2021.
