Michael L. Swiderski, died Monday, March 1, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Mike was born May 23, 1958 in Chicago, Illinois to Louis and Geraldine Swiderski.
On October 2, 1982, he married the love of his life, Laura Petway Swiderski, at St. Peter’s Church in Birmingham, Alabama where he spent his childhood. For the past 38 years, Mike and Laura shared a love for each other that was unmatched, and he always put Laura first before anything else. Mike loved Laura more than any man could love his wife. Their life was filled with love, candor, and laughter. Not only were Mike and Laura partners, but they were also best friends and soulmates that found their most joy by simply being with their friends and family. Their greatest pleasure was simply spending time together.
After graduation from University of Alabama at Birmingham, Mike had an extraordinary career for Amsted Industries spanning 39 remarkable years. Mike started working in Human Resources, and worked through the organization to become President of three Amsted companies. Mike was known for his passion, leadership, mentorship and developing the employees in his organization. Mike made everyone around him better with his leadership, sharp mind, and good humor.
Mike and Laura started their family early and began raising their five children in St. Charles, Illinois. Above and beyond anything else, Mike was most proud of his accomplishments as a father. Mike valued his time as a father coaching, teaching and mentoring his children and so many others. He touched so many lives through Storm basketball, Wasco baseball, Tri-City soccer and additional activities for his children as his passion was teaching children the values of teamwork and leadership. Through his example, he taught his children the importance of always putting others first. Mike was also involved at St. John Newman Church for many years as an Assistant Youth Director. Mike will forever be remembered for his generosity, kindness, love for others and ability to bring humor to any situation. Most recently, Mike’s greatest pleasure came from being Papa to his 6 beautiful grandchildren, and watching his children become parents themselves.
Mike is survived by his wife, Laura, of 38 years, sons David (Suzanne) Swiderski, Scott (Jamie) Swiderski, Joseph Swiderski, Matthew (Audrey) Swiderski and his daughter Amy (Craig) Brown; six grandchildren (Jackson, Abigail and Katherine Swiderski; Michael and Stephen Swiderski; and Emma Brown), his brother Bob (Kelly) Swiderski and dear nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Geraldine Swiderski.
The private service for his family will be held at Yurs Funeral Home, St. Charles, Illinois on Friday, March 5th. A celebration of his life will be open to all friends and family at a later date. Information will follow with respect to the celebration of life.

"Mike was the President of ConMet when I joined the organization. I quickly understood that Mike was a man who seeks perfection in professional work and inspires and guides the team towards this goal. Mike's demand for perfection allowed room for me to learn from my own mistakes. His open door policy and sense of humor made working for him, worthwhile. His passing is a great loss to our company and to all those who worked for him, but pales in comparison to the loss being suffered by his family. We are going to miss having him around to ask questions and get guidance. My prayers are with his family."
Patti Petway from Vestavia, AL

"Mike plays a big part of my high school memories! Watched our Bucs basketball games which Mike was one of the star players. A couple of trips to the beach with friends. Parties at different friends houses. Classes. Church and CCD classes. He and some other buddies gave me my high school nickname of Bean! Mike was a special guy and hate to hear he lost his battle with cancer. He did put up a good fight. Hate he never made a single one of our reunions as something always seemed to come up and he would not be able to make it. Was so hoping he could make this next one now that he retired. But I am thankful to have kept in touch these past 45 years since high school. So blessed to have had a nice visit in Dec 2017 with a few other Berry Bucs. You will forever be missed. God wanted you more... Rest in peace my friend."

"Mike was a coaching mentor to me for years. It still amazes me that he taught kindergarteners to play on the offensive AND defensive side of the soccer field. Needless to say, but we had very good soccer teams. He also taught me much about coaching youth basketball. We served together for 9 years on the Storm basketball board and were able to change it from a small club to a large organization that still thrives today. Of course Mike will be missed, but he will remain forever in my heart."
