Monica G. Entwistle age 91, of St. Charles,  passed away on Monday, March 4, 2019 at River Glen Hospice, St. Charles, Il.

She  was born Monica G. Rivard in Kankakee, Illinois on April 15, 1927.  Her parents, Leon and Alma Breault Rivard, were of Canadian French descent.  Monica was the ninth of their eleven children (Lionel, Raymond, Lucille, Annette, Bibiane, Rita, Yvonne, Andrew, Marguerite, Ruthanne (“sister”/cousin) Surprenant-Benkovitz. She grew up in Bourbonnais, attended Maternity BVM school, and met her future husband, Charles S. Entwistle, Jr., on a blind date. They wed at Maternity BVM Church on April 10, 1948 and celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary prior to Charles’ passing in 2001.

Monica had “the patience of a saint” and was always supportive and encouraging, wise and kind, and so proud of her children and their families.  She received the great joy in raising her children, watching her grandchildren grow, and her goal “to make people smile”.  She will be remembered as selfless, always smiling, possessing a quiet strength of mind and body.  While numerous chronic conditions assaulted her body, she lived life to its fullest, never wavering in her faith, never robbed of her love for life, family, travel, painting/crafts, and music – with a nod to Bingo in her later years.

She was strong and serene in her Catholic faith, having a special place in her heart for all our guardian angels.  She was known as “The Angel Lady” by friends/staff at Westwood Oaks in Kankakee and then friends/staff at Brighton Gardens and River Glen in St. Charles.   She collected hundreds of angels and loved passing out small beaded angels along with an angel poem to friends and medical personnel/care staffers who she considered her “angels”.  Monica and Chuck said the “Guardian Angel” prayer each morning and evening of their married life and she continued to do so until her passing.

Surviving family members who will miss her terribly are her five children:  Cindy (Jerry) Benson of St. Charles, Gary (Judy) Entwistle of Kankakee, Linda Entwistle of Kankakee, Amy Grady of Bourbonnais, and Ellen (Richard) Janevicius of Naperville; as well as her sister, Marguerite Hildebrand, of Bourbonnais and her “sister”/cousin, Ruthanne (Joe) Benkovitz of Douglaston, NY.  Monica has 8 grandchildren and 8 great grand  children.  One infant son, Michael Entwistle, preceded her in passing.

Visitation for Monica will be held Thursday  at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, St. Charles, Illinois from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Funeral mass will follow at 10:30 A.M.   Graveside Services will be held 11:00 Friday at the chapel of All Saints Cemetery in Bourbonnais, Il.  Burial will be at Maternity BVM Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Bourbonnais .

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice or for masses.

I believe in angels and I hope that you do, too; because I believe that angels are watching over you.
