Nancy Norgaard, age 79, of St. Charles passed away Friday, June 11, 2021 at her home.
She was born January 26, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph E. and Loretta (nee Brennan) Stewart.
Proud member of the Stewart Sister’s Clan, Jeanne (Stewart) Riordan, Marguerite (Stewart) Pecoraro, and Mary Stewart Mc Pherson. Loved and was loved by her dear brother in laws James, Joe and Bill. She was blessed with a little brother that she loved dearly, Joseph Stewart.
After graduating from Alvernia High School in Chicago, Nancy attended St Mary of the Woods College where she had an exceptionally good time. She returned to Chicago to complete her degree in History and English at Mundelein College, now Loyola University Chicago. She then completed her M.Ed from Northern Illinois University.
She greatly valued a Jesuit education. Her pursuits served her well as a history buff, an avid reader, and a lifelong teacher. She began her career at Tilton Middle School in the Little Village Neighborhood in Chicago where she fell in love with her students and validated her career choice. She later went on to teach history at Canton Middle School in Elgin and finally for many years, Eastview Middle School in Bartlett. She poured her heart and soul into education, and was greatly rewarded for her efforts by not only serving her students, but also in making the best friends a person could ask for.
Nancy leaves behind the love of her life and most devoted husband/caretaker ever, Larry Norgaard. The couple met at The M & M Club in Chicago in 1966 and were married in 1967 at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Chicago, followed by a reception and The Oak Park Arms and a honeymoon to Miami. She also leaves behind her son Michael and his wife Krissy, her daughter Julie and adoring son in law Eddy Garcia, and her forever daughter in law, Charlotte Norgaard. Larry and Nancy had an amazing life together, providing their children with yearly ultimate adventures around the country. They were spending their retirement years traveling the world, volunteering with their beloved parish, St. John Neumann, Nancy tutoring ESL learners, Book Club, Zumba and spending any time they could with their greatest joys, their grandchildren. Nancy, aka Granny or Grammy, leaves behind Shauna and Brett Norgaard, and Michael, Matthew and Lucas Garcia. She was the best Granny you could ask for, and played a huge role in all of their lives since the moment they arrived. She was so loved, and loved them beyond words. Nancy also leaves behind multiple nieces and nephews whom she adored each and every one of.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, her grandmother Bridget Brennan, her sister Jean Riordan, her niece Mary Riordan and her nephew and Godson, James Riordan. Nancy was an ALS Warrior. No one should have to take on that fight. Ultimately, she won.
Funeral mass will 11:00 A.M., Saturday at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2900 East Main Street, St. Charles Illinois 60174. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8:00 P.M. at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, (coroner of Rt. 64 and Rt. 25), St. Charles, Illinois 60174

"I am so very sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in your memories.I Am FreeDon’t grieve for me, for now I am free, I am following the path God laid for me.I took his hand when I heard him call, I turned my back and left it all.I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work or play.Tasks left undone must stay that way, I found peace at the close of the day.If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy.A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah, these things I too will miss.Be not burdened with time of sorrow, I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life was full, I savored much, Good friends, Good times, A loved ones touch.Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.Lift up your heart and share with me. God wanted me now, he set me free."
