Paul J. Nelson, age 96 of St. Charles, IL passed away December 28, 2024, at Autumn Leaves in St. Charles.
He was born on January 1, 1928, in Chicago, IL. The son of the late Oscar and Bertha Nelson.
Mr. Nelson served in the US Army (Korean Conflict) and had been a member of the St. Charles American Legion. In 1953 he married his wife Carol, they had been married for 62 years before she passed away in 2016. While living in Chicago, Paul worked many years as a Sheet Metal Worker before retiring. During his time in Chicago, he actively volunteered as a Boy Scout Leader and spent many hours carrying out his favorite hobbies of gardening and growing Orchids under-lights. When he finally relocated to St. Charles, IL he became a volunteer at the Lazarus House where he volunteered for many years, along with his wife. Paul also assisted in many ways at his Church; St. Patrick Catholic Church. His true passion in life was devoting his time to his Wife and his four children, along with many hours of home remodeling to make his family’s home perfect for all to enjoy.
Paul is survived by his children, Nancy, Michael and Brian Nelson. Also, his grandchildren, Julie Giammarese and Josh (Jen) Nelson and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol and a son, David.
Visitation will be held January 14, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Yurs Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, St. Charles, IL. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at St. Patrick Crane Road Church, 6N487 Crane Road, St. Charles, IL. Burial will follow at Prairie Cemetery, St. Charles.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Lazarus House, 214 Walnut Street, St. Charles. IL 60174
